We’re celebrating Dr. Cathy Lee and Dr. Teresa Wilburn for their recent accomplishments that showcase the expertise, collaboration, and opportunities happening across our campus.

🧬 Dr. Cathy Lee had her manuscript, “Using MEGA12 Software to Analyze DNA Barcoding Sequence Data,” accepted for publication in The American Biology Teacher, co-authored with fellow Highlanders Corinthian Jackson, Aastha Jaiswal, and Dr. Amanda Duffus.

🤖 Dr. Teresa Wilburn had her presentation on AI, education, and inequality accepted for the 2026 Georgia Sociological Association Annual Meeting.

From hands-on research to sharing ideas beyond campus, our faculty continue to create meaningful opportunities for students and contribute to the fields they teach.

As the University System of Georgia celebrates a record number of degrees awarded statewide, Gordon State College is proud to reflect that progress right here in Highlander Nation.

This spring, GSC awarded 338 degrees to 328 graduates, representing a 15% increase in degrees awarded over Spring 2025 and one of the largest graduating classes in the College’s history.

And the work continues. From offering an affordable four-year degree to preparing students for high-demand careers in education, health care and beyond, GSC is creating pathways that connect education with opportunity.

Breast Cancer Awareness Month💗

Gordon State College is proud to welcome the Atrium Health Navicent Mobile 3D Screening Mammography Coach to campus on Wednesday, Oct. 14, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Melton Parking Lot.

This resource is available to GSC faculty, staff and members of our local community who meet the screening criteria. Walk-ins are welcome, except from noon to 1 p.m., and grant funding is available for those who are uninsured or underinsured.

Early detection matters. We encourage our Highlander family and our neighbors throughout the community to take advantage of this convenient opportunity to prioritize their health.
