Hope for Amanda Memorial Classic - 2026 05/06/2026

So proud to have sponsored the contest hole at the Hope for Amanda golf tournament held in honor of a former student who we lost too soon. I sponsored it also to honor her brother, a former student who did an amazing thing to honor his sister’s memory. 💕

Happy 2026!

I don't know who needs to hear this, but 2027 HS grads are 2026 test takers, and the time to plan and prep is NOW!

If merit aid can save your family from the changes coming to financial aid max outs due to the One Big Beautiful Bill, a little tutoring now will come in clutch when that first tuition bill comes.

As a local mom, teacher, and tutoring business owner, I want to share (with pride and happiness!) that my own son has saved **$60K** on college so far as of the second tuition bill of his junior year, all because of his test scores.

After COVID, he could have easily applied as "test optional" during the Class of 2023 app cycle. But why leave TENS OF THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS on the table when there are experts to help navigate the testing aspect of applying to college? But he had about a 100-point shortfall. So we found a math tutor and invested in his future. I will always be grateful for what this has done for our family and for my son's future.

His successful outcome is why I launched my business—to help other families and kids not be swallowed by tuition bills and student loans.

Testing isn't just about admissions anymore. Given the changes to lending and loan repayment, it is super important, now more than ever, to leave nothing on the table.

My expertise isn't the financial end. I'm just a public school teacher sharing my own family's blessing, hoping to inspire others to get curious about how a test score could change their financial options and to help them meet their goals.

It is my honor and privilege to have helped clients both locally and nationally, in-person and virtually, toward their goals of acceptance and merit, including (but not limited to) the following: score-dependent presidential merit awards at Alabama and TCNJ; Scolarships of Distinction and Engineering Excellence at WVU; one 100% and two 75% Florida Bright Futures scholarships (out of three total Florida clients!); early decision acceptance at Tufts; scores and essays supporting undergrad acceptances at University of Southern California, Carnegie Mellon, NYU, Vassar, Emory, Lehigh, Villanova, Bucknell, Penn State (University Park), Pitt, Syracuse, Rutgers NB, NJIT, and Stevens; graduate program acceptances at Fordham and Columbia; National Merit Scholarship-confirming SAT and NMSQT-commended PSAT scores; many three-digit level score improvements for English-section only; and an 82% AP Lang pass rate for my 2025 classroom students in my second year teaching the course.

Reach out and help my list grow! To support my community, I offer discounts to students in Barnegat and Brick, as well as to the children of public school teachers and first responders.

Happy almost summer break, Barnegat! ☀️

I am a local high school English teacher who has been training teen brains since 1999. This month, I am celebrating year three of growing my business. This business isn’t just my summer side hustle. It’s my good vibes! Working with students and their families to help achieve their reading and writing goals *is* my idea of summer fun. 😎

Summer goes out with a bang though… The next big college entrance test date is 8/23!

I want to share the good vibes with my school and home communities (👀 I’m looking at you, Brick and Barnegat 👀) with some great opportunities for special pay-as-you-go pricing (and more savings with pre-paid packages).

After this special is over, I will still offer families of public school teachers and first responders these same prices.

I’m currently working on packages for college essay consulting. Stay tuned!

Reach out for pricing if you need to stop the summer slide with remediation, kick-start the next grade with enrichment, or tackle that Lit or Lang summer assignment.

Although math is not my domain, as a member of the National Test Prep Association, I have a fantastic tutoring network to tap into to help meet my clients’ full needs.

Hi! I’m Coach Aimee, a local mom, public school educator, and upper-grades reading and writing tutoring entrepreneur.

Lately, I have seen more people around here advertising on Facebook for test prep tutoring. Yet, from their posts, I never feel like I could know what they’re like as a person. A cold, anonymous post every now and again pops up. No connection. No individual voice.

Myself, I like to tell stories when I post for my business. That’s not for everyone, but the people who appreciate me for who I am are who I want as clients.

So it’s storytime.

Back in October, I started working with a test prep client from Florida. Out of a list of names, her dad called because of my business name, Shore Up Academics. He said it reminded him of home. Funny enough, he was born in Toms River and lived there until he was about 7 or 8 (while my family has been there for generations!).

I found a great math tutor for his daughter who, with his knowledge and expertise, helped her soar into the 600s. (I have some great math folks on speed dial!)

But that new reading section is really stymying kids, and she has continued to push through the tough stuff. Even my 1991 nemesis, that sneaky vocab atrocity “torpor,” made its way onto a recent practice test! While it’s unlikely that we will see analogies or the word “inchoate” anytime before I retire, between the labarynthine logic, the syntactical slipperiness, and the vexing vocab, this new test is its own unique beast.

My client has worked *so hard* for 75% Florida Bright Futures, and I’m so excited for her to crush it next Saturday and get that bread. It has been wonderful to work with her, and this achievement will be such a blessing to her and her family. Beyond her final score—whatever it may be—in terms of soft skills like confidence, adaptability, problem solving, and work ethic, she has grown so much!

I know tests are controversial, but they’re a thing, and (I’ve said it before and will say it again) they can be used as a tool instead of an obstacle. I keep saying that I have two goals in mind in my practice: empowering young adults and families to use this tool to pick the locks of admissions and scholarships and empowering myself to get the heck of teaching at 55 and still do what I love on my terms!

Her dad paid me a very high compliment, saying he would trust me with the next daughter in a few years.

I told him he’ll get a discount if he helps me retire early from referrals! 🤣 He was nice enough to permit me to post his message of gratitude.

Coach Aimee check-in:

I’m what some in the test prep business call a solopreneur, and I am an “only” at that. I fly solo at my own company, and I also “only” tutor for English.

Some potential clients out there are looking for math tutoring only. Despite my expertise being in “only” English, I *have* gained some math expertise for this new SAT® test. It’s just not about content.

Here’s my wisdom:
Don’t hire a tutor for math for the SAT® who doesn’t know about the new iteration of this test like it’s their JOB to know about it. (Honestly, the same goes for English.)

Even though I don’t tutor for math, I am tuned into the conversation surrounding the math section, which is enhanced by a new embedded calculator, Desmos.

Anyone who hasn’t been following this test for a year is already woefully behind. And it’s worse if they don’t know about how Desmos works for students on the platform. Maybe they teach math now, or have tutored for the SAT® in the past, or have a degree in math. Those are all great foundations. Still, I wouldn’t hire someone for my own child who hasn’t prepped for this like it’s their job.

I know my limits, but I don’t always accept them. That’s why I made a big move recently to help make bigger moves in my clients’ scores. I joined the NTPA. No, not the National Tractor Pull Association (it’s real, people): the National Test Prep Association.

If you’re hiring a tutor, please spend your money wisely. Check out the NTPA’s list of tutors in their directory. Since I’m new, I’m not on it yet, but I’ll be on there soon!

I always joke that “maybe this summer I’ll learn some math,” but the reality is that I wouldn’t soon match the expertise of my math colleagues. They have degrees. They have experience working with clients. They have dedicated themselves to learning more about this test (which seems to pivot every seven years or so).

So what can I do to help my clients with math if I need a math tutor myself?

I can network. And I do.

On 6/9, I attended the National Test Prep Association’s annual conference to level up my business. As a result, I have some exciting opportunities to test out the newest platforms to help clients with test prep. And I have connected with some real rock stars!

Please make sure you are doing your due diligence when hiring tutors. I’m not everyone’s idea of ideal since I am not one-stop-shopping. While I can’t tutor both domains, I view myself as a specialist, not a generalist. So why not hire me for my specialty and let me connect you with a math specialist?

Reach out if you want to know more!

You love to see it! 🍎 ❤️

Thanks to a tutor colleague, I was offered an opportunity to work with a motivated young man in 8th grade who needed some confidence with his advanced ELA class. We are working on some basics for structures for writing. He’s getting tools for his toolbox, and I’m getting the teacher warm fuzzies from his motivated attitude and determination. 📝 💻 🧠 💪
