Our first-grade scientists put motion and stability to the test with a Magnet Car Race! 🏁

As students explored magnets, they investigated how a force can change the motion of an object. Using magnetic forces to make their cars move, our Eagles were able to observe, compare, and investigate what happened when different forces were applied. 🧲➡️🚗

This hands-on investigation connected directly to NC Science Standard PS.1.1.2 as students compared the effects of a given force on an object’s motion.

Who knew learning about force and motion could be this much fun?! 💙💛

🔥🚒 Fire Safety + Math = Learning in Action! 🚒🔥

Last week was Fire Safety Week, and our Eagles had the opportunity to learn about staying safe through a special collaboration between Deputy West and Mrs. G! 🦅

Students learned important fire safety skills while participating in engaging activities that kept them moving, thinking, and working together. Our 5th graders even brought math into the mix! ➗🏃

Students used their times from the activities to reinforce their understanding of decimals, making connections between what they are learning in the classroom and real-world data. There was plenty of collaboration, problem-solving, and discussion along the way! 🧠🤝

We love seeing our staff find creative ways to connect learning across different areas while teaching skills that help keep our Eagles safe. 💙💛

This week, we had the opportunity to celebrate FOUR amazing students who received Positive Referrals! 💙💛

At Central, positive referrals are one of the ways we recognize students who are making a difference through their choices, effort, kindness, leadership, perseverance, and character. Sometimes it’s a big moment, and sometimes it’s the small choices made day after day that deserve to be celebrated! 👏

These four Eagles gave us a reason to stop and say, “We see you, and we’re proud of you!” 🌟

🕯️🧪 Making the Invisible… Visible! 🧪🕯️

Our second-grade scientists had a little Miracle Matter fun today as they explored the amazing world of gases! 💙💛

Students created carbon dioxide—a gas they couldn’t see—and discovered that even something invisible can have a very real effect. They used the carbon dioxide they produced to extinguish a candle without blowing on it! 😮💨

Experiences like this encourage our Eagles to observe, question, investigate, and explain the science happening all around them—even when they can’t see it! 🔬🦅

🚗💨 Ready, Set, RAMP! 💨🚗

Our third-grade scientists have been busy building, testing, observing, and learning as they explore force, motion, speed, and direction! 🔬🦅

Students were able to design and build their own ramps for toy cars and then put them to the test! Students investigated how forces affect an object’s motion and compared how quickly objects traveled the same distance. 📏🚗

But the best part of an investigation is figuring out WHY! Students recorded their findings and used science vocabulary like friction, distance, speed, motion, position, faster, and slower to discuss what they observed and explain their results. 🧠💬

This hands-on learning connects directly to NC Science Standards PS.3.2.1 and PS.3.2.2 and gives our Eagles the opportunity to learn science by actually DOING science!

🌟📚 Meet Mrs. Pritchett's Heggerty Heroes! 📚🌟

Our youngest Eagles are building strong literacy skills—and having a little fun along the way with Heggerty Heroes! 💙💛🦅

During Heggerty lessons, students are encouraged to stay engaged, participate, and give their very best effort. Each day, a Heggerty Hero is selected by a classmate for modeling those expectations! ⭐

But there’s a special twist—the Hero becomes a leader! The selected student watches for classmates who are demonstrating strong participation and learning behaviors and gets to choose the next Heggerty Hero for the following day. 👀👏

We love this simple way of combining early literacy, student engagement, peer recognition, and leadership. Our Eagles aren’t just learning the expectations—they’re learning to recognize and celebrate them in one another! 🦅✨

📚💨 Reading Skills in Action! 💨📚

Our Eagles are showing that reading isn’t just something we do during ELA—it helps us learn, create, and explore across every subject! 💙💛🦅

This week, students are working on making connections in scientific texts and using transitional words like first, next, then, and last to understand and sequence the steps of an experiment.

Today, they put those skills to the test by following a scientific text to create their own wind streamers! 🌬️ Students carefully followed the sequence of steps, applied what they learned, and then headed outside with a compass to test their creations.
And the verdict? They worked! 🙌

We love seeing literacy come to life through hands-on learning—and watching our Eagles discover that strong reading skills help us make sense of the world around us! 🧭📖✨

💪🧪 Putting the “Force” in Force & Motion! 🧪💪

Our two third-grade classes took science learning outside for a little friendly tug-of-war while investigating balanced and unbalanced forces! 🦅💙💛

Students got to experience force and motion firsthand as they observed what happened when forces were balanced—and what changed when one side applied a greater force. Through this hands-on investigation, students explored how forces can cause changes in an object’s speed or direction.

📚 This learning connects to NC Science Standard PS.3.2.1: Carry out investigations to infer changes in speed or direction resulting from forces acting on an object.
Who knew a game of tug-of-war could turn into a science lab?! 💪🔬 We love seeing our Eagles experience the concepts they’re learning!

And yes… the student on the ground in the first picture is JUST FINE! 😂😂 Sometimes science gets competitive!
