🚨 Community Alert 🚨
We have been made aware of an ongoing discussion among Orrville High School seniors regarding participation in a game known as "Senior Assassin." For those unfamiliar with it, this game involves students "stalking" each other and "shooting" one another with water guns outside of school property/hours, with the goal of being the last senior remaining. It can be likened to a game of "Hide & Seek," but with water-based weapons.
We want to express our concerns about this game. In various locations across the country, similar games have led to incidents where participants were physically harmed or even shot by unaware bystanders. Additionally, this game may lead players into other communities where local residents or authorities might not understand the context of the activity.
Each year, due to the nature of the game, which involves elements of hiding, sneaking, and surprise encounters, law enforcement across the country often receives calls from concerned residents reporting suspicious activities. These concerns typically arise when innocent student players, engaged in the game, are misinterpreted by the public. While we do not endorse the game, our priority is to keep the community informed and safe.
We urge students to seriously consider the implications of participating. What may seem like harmless fun can easily be misconstrued by bystanders, potentially leading to alarming misunderstandings. If you choose to participate, please adhere to the following important guidelines for your safety and the safety of others:
1. **Respect Private Property**: It is imperative not to trespass onto or into private residences, yards, or any other personal property during gameplay, especially after dark. If a property owner or occupant asks you to leave, it is crucial to comply without resistance.
2. **Use Clearly Defined Toy Water Guns**: Opt for brightly colored, distinctly designed water pistols that clearly indicate they are toys. This will minimize the chances of your toy being mistaken for a real firearm. Avoid wearing dark or camouflage clothing, as well as accessories that could create confusion or panic among the public.
3. **Cooperate with Authorities**: If you encounter law enforcement while engaging in the game, do not attempt to flee or hide. Approach the officers calmly and explain your activity. Cooperation is vital; if they request that you stop the game, it is in your best interest to comply.
To our residents: If you observe any suspicious behavior from individuals, please refrain from confronting them directly. Instead, please contact 911 immediately, and we will dispatch officers to address the situation.
By following these guidelines, we can work together to create a safer environment for everyone during this time of year. Thank you for your cooperation and understanding!
