Enjoy Kathy Steffen’s Assemblage Art in the Glass Case Gallery throughout the month of October.

She talks about her work: “Assemblage (AH-sem-blah-jjj) Art brings found and discarded objects together to create new one-of-a-kind three-dimensional art. Began by Pablo Picasso in 1912, assemblage has a rich history with many different approaches. It especially appeals to me as it finds a new life for items instead of adding to landfill. My own method includes adding clay sculptural elements to the construction and then finishing with painting that brings the piece to life.

“Since retiring from teaching and writing, I spend many hours in “the lab” (the basement of my Spring Green home converted into an art studio) which I refer to as my happy place. Taking online and in-person art classes keeps my creative soul alive and gives me new inspiration and approaches to such a versatile art form. There are no limits to assemblage, which I find liberating (and a little scary) all at the same time.”

Kathy’s Assemblage Arty is available for viewing during regular library hours.

Beaded Odyssey runs through the end of the month at Drury Gallery. You may recognize Dee Croaker's beaded artwork. She has participated In Spirit Lake Arts Community Art Show held annually in February at 3rd Street Nutrition.

Dee "White Wolf" Croaker's exhibit, Beaded Odyssey: Healing thru Beads & Canvas, sponsored by Herb Kohl Philanthropies, opens TODAY! Dee is a member of the Leech Lake Band of Ojibwe in Minnesota, residing in Baraboo. Combining techniques and beads found across Turtle Island and generations, she tells a story of a little girl born and raised on the Leech Lake Reservation growing up unsure of her place in this big world. Join us for the Opening Reception from 4-6pm. Free admission always!

🕔Starting at 5 p.m. today, UW–Madison’s iconic Flocktober fun-raiser returns! For each gift made over the next 24 hours, a pink lawn flamingo will land on Bascom Hill—carrying on a campus tradition launched by the irreverent student group, the Pail and Shovel Party, in 1979.

Every gift—no matter the size—keeps the Chazen thriving. Your support directly fuels our free public programming, educational opportunities, and our major initiative: a total reinstallation of our permanent collection across all galleries. It’s our most ambitious museum project since the building expansion in 2011!
