This summer, senior Wildlife Biology major Destiny Lepera completed an internship at the Karen Beasley Sea Turtle Center in Surf City, North Carolina where she got hands-on experience rehabilitating injured turtles, monitoring nests, and helping hatchlings on their journey to the ocean.

“Lees-McRae and this internship have made me step out of my comfort zone. That’s always been something I have been scared to do, and Lees-McRae gave me that push, but KBSTC gave me a giant push,” she said.

We are excited to announce that wildlife conservationist and television personality Jeff Corwin will kick off the 2026–27 academic year as this year's Convocation keynote speaker!

The annual event celebrates the start of a new year and serves as an official welcome to campus for new and returning students.

The new Lewis M. Hall Endowed Scholarship honors Lewis Hall, a former faculty member and co-founder of Order of the Tower who served the college for 38 years. Hall was a math instructor, and also served as dean of men, assistant football and baseball coach, head women's basketball coach, and academic dean before his retirement in 1992.

The scholarship will carry on Hall's legacy and dedication to student success by awarding funds to one qualified Order of the Tower student each academic year. The scholarship is thanks to a generous donation by alumnus Charles "Lynn" Lewis '75.

Summer Clinicals are officially complete for students in our Wildlife Biology and Wildlife Rehabilitation programs!

Throughout the summer these students gain intensive hands-on experience at the May Wildlife Rehabilitation Center at Lees McRae College, but they also take their skills beyond campus to site visits across the state.

This summer students visited the Greensboro Science Center, Grandfather Mountain Swinging Bridge, Wilson Center for Nature Discovery, and more, learning in the field and caring for all kinds of animals in the process!
