A first for RAISE — and for Niko. 🐧📚

This week I had the opportunity to bring Niko's First Dive into Bangor Childcare for the first interactive storytelling sessions from the What We Carry Inside series.

The goal is to make these visits more than simply reading a story. We used Niko's adventure to get the children looking closely, asking questions, wondering what might happen next and exploring the story together.

We even had a few Niko characters hiding around the classroom before we started!

These first visits are also helping me continue to develop the activities and resources that accompany each book and learn what works best with young learners.

A big thank you to Bangor Childcare for welcoming me in and allowing me to share some photos from the morning.

I'm now beginning to introduce these complimentary 30-minute interactive story visits to other local preschools and elementary schools.

Sometimes the barriers we face early in life prepare us for the ones we’ll face later.

For Dr. Yvette Rice LLVE, LLC, becoming the first Black cheerleader at her high school during integration became the beginning of a much bigger journey through engineering, leadership, and purpose.

My dad used me as his cover story 🕵️‍♂️ 😅

At 13 years old, most of us were worried about middle school. Anker Heegaard was busy being the literal "cover story" that saved his father from a gunpoint interrogation in the foothills of Afghanistan.

There’s a point in a lot of journeys where the focus shifts.

Not always intentionally… but it moves from:
getting better → to achieving something.

▶️ College Scholarship.
▶️ MLS Draft.
▶️ Professional Title.

And once you get there… there can be a drop.

Why? Maybe the motivation was tied to the outcome —not the process. 🧐

This part of the conversation with Eric Klenofsky really stood out to me.

It’s not just a soccer thing. It’s something I think a lot of us go through.
