This semester, Julianne completed an FCCLA STAR Event project called National Programs in Action focused on teaching Financial Fitness to 4th grade students. Over the semester, the project taught three main lessons: earning, give/save/spend, and budgeting, all through hands-on activities, written work, and real-world simulation games.Â
Students earned classroom “money” by doing homework and classroom jobs, then practiced decision-making during monthly auctions. This encouraged students to think about spending wisely, saving intentionally, and planning ahead.
The project ended with a banquet to celebrate their achievements, students earned certificates recognizing their completion of the financial fitness journey. Seeing their enthusiasm and progression really showed the importance of introducing financial education at an early age.
This STAR Event project reflects that learning about financial fitness not only teaches good money management but also builds responsibility, confidence, and decision-making skills.
