Sunshine and Glass go hand in hand! Hope you are all soaking up the nice bright sky... Just letting you know that there are only 3 spaces left for the Kiln Carving workshop on Saturday, April 27th; Kiln Carving is a great way to make your glass sparkle! If you are planning to enroll, please call Art by the Sea Gallery and Studio, (541) 347-5355; better yet, stop by in person, 145 Fillmore Ave SE, Bandon - next to the Station Restaurant. Also, the Casting Class on Sunday, April 28th will focus on Sea Shells and Dragonflies. An image of the shell examples is already on the announcement post; I am hoping to get a dragonfly buzzing around soon for you and looking forward to seeing you in the classroom!

In case you missed the announcement, Art by the Sea is having a reception tomorrow, April 6th, 2-4 and welcoming new artist, Laura Brownfield. If you haven't seen Laura's glasswork yet, it's incredibly lovely and very fun! She has taught a few classes at my studio before and maybe, if we all cross our fingers at the same time and think happy thoughts, we can talk her into doing so again in the near future. Another new artist also being welcomed to Art by the Sea, Carol Howald, is an amazing painter! You will be awed by the naturalism and detail in Carol's ocean scenes, boats, and birds! Finally, stop by the reception and meet Rosalynd Shuff, the Gallery's featured artist this month. Rosalynd won last year's People's Choice award in the "Celebrate the Square" show; her work is fresh and inviting!

Enjoy an Art-filled weekend,
Anne

Hello glass lovers...I'm posting two classes for the end of April; registration is through Art by the Sea Gallery (541) 347-5355. It is up on their website and I'll be taking flyers in tomorrow, maybe late today. I'm offering a Kiln Carving class and a Casting class. I will try to find a different picture for the kiln carving, because the salmon in this one is so subtle that it doesn't show well on the gallery website. It's a really fun process, just difficult to process. Hope you can join the fun! Anne

The Sun is finally here, hoping it will stick around for awhile; the Rhodes at the shop are wanting to warm up and bloom!

I have two classes coming up for the end of March.....
The first came about because I frequently hear people say "I can't draw", so I thought I'd invite those timid artists to have some fun and lift your artistic anchors...The second class is in introductory printing class; this is a great process, using soft-cut blocks and carving tools. I've taught many people this process in mini-lessons; this is the first expanded workshop in a series that will go in-depth into the world of printmaking.

Coming in April.......I'll be gradually adding some glass fusing classes into the mix. They will be Non Cutting Glass Fusing classes..."Hmm" you might say....yes, there is plenty to do with glass that doesn't involve cutting, such as casting, kiln carving, enamels and inclusions.....So keep an eye open for those workshops on the horizon beginning in April.

All of my class registration will be run through Art by the Sea Gallery; they do a wonderful job, it's easy to register, and supports the gallery too. (541) 329-0303. As in the past, my classes will all meet here at my studio, 525 11th St SE, Bandon.

Here are your March workshops....Hope to see you soon!

"Sure You Can: Drawing for Those Who Say They Can’t”…..
Friday, March 22, 2024, 10:00 am - Noon.
Did you bury your sketchbook out behind the doghouse when the drawing of the dog looked more like the cat?…Do you: second-guess every mark you make, feel frustrated when your drawings don’t match your vision, or the photograph you were copying, or the picture the person next to you drew?… Have you
heard yourself saying “I’m not an Artist”, once, or a bunch?…Then it’s time to dig up and dust off that sketchbook; learn to have fun drawing, again, or maybe for the very first time. Simple lessons, lots of laughs, techniques to help build your drawing skills and confidence while you give your inner perfectionist a rest.
Adults only. Cost $25 Maximum 6 students, Minimum 4.
All materials provided. Meets at 525 11th St SE, Bandon.
**Register at Art by the Sea Gallery, Bandon (541) 347- 5355

Hello Friends, Happy (belated) New Year!

I'm sorry I had to cancel classes at the end of the year; we had a barrage of unplanned and rather extreme health issues that hit home, from October through December. I'm very grateful to be back on track with my time and starting 2024 with fresh ambitions and renewed energy! I will be running classes through Art by the Sea Gallery again and anticipate that my schedule will be smoothed out in time to begin teaching in March. I'll let you know as classes are readied; the Gallery also sends out newsletters and announcements, so be sure to get on their emailing list.

I wanted to start off the new season of ideas by sharing work from my ongoing Art off the Deep End workshop. Our topic this time around is "symbols, how they develop and how they reflect meaning, personally and within larger contexts." This is Barbara's work in progress; it has gone through an amazing transformation and I am anxious to see how it will progress between now and our session's end, in March or April. Also, just a reminder; at some point I'm anticipating that this page will morph over to a new one for "South Coast Studio Arts" and this page will be closed down. I will let you know when I catch up with the technology and make that happen; in the meantime, Enjoy!

Hello, we're having such lovely sunny days; I hope you are all outside enjoying the beauty that surrounds us!

I also hope you can wander indoors for awhile tomorrow, Saturday, Oct 7th; Art by the Sea Gallery is having a reception from 2pm-4pm. We'll be celebrating the wonderful fiber artistry of Barbara Lebiedzik and the vibrant colorful works of our local Community Show participants. In case you can't join in the reception, the exhibit will be up all month and the gallery is open daily. See you soon at Art by the Sea Gallery, on the corner of Hwy 101 and Filmoore, next door to the Station Restaurant.

Hi Everyone, did you enjoy the refreshing rain?

We had a great time in the Groutless Mosaic workshop yesterday. I wanted to share Gayla's lovely abstract with you, very intriguing and so much going on in the design!

The interesting thing about this process is the way the transparent take on an ancient mottled look when they are held up to the light. Here are two views, one when it's flat and showing reflective light, one upright with light from behind.

Next classes coming up will be in November and December; my schedule changed a bit, so I'll let you know as soon as I know what time permits. Enjoy!

Hello! I hope you all had a chance to check out the Cranberry Festival last weekend and spend time with friends and family.

There is still room in Friday's Mosaic workshop; it starts at 9:00 am, September 22nd. If you are hoping to jump into the fun, please register through Art by the Sea Gallery (541) 347-5355, by this Sunday. That will give me time to get all the materials together and I'll be working the gallery in the morning for anyone who has questions.

Attached are a couple of new images from my April class. The same technique we'll be using next week was used in both. The previous class emphasized color and contrast; I always find it so delightful to see how each student brings their unique creativity to projects. Karen's abstract sun rays and Megan's lupine flowers used similar colors with very dynamic and different results. Enjoy!

Call to Artists....Hi Everyone, Art by the Sea Gallery, Bandon is having another Community Show soon and I'm attaching the CTA here, just case you didn't already see it on the gallery website. The theme is really fun, "Color - Wonderful & Wild", and the drop off dates are October 1 & 2. **Hopefully the CTA is showing up properly. If not, you can find both the CTA and the Entry Form on the gallery website: artbytheseagallery.com

The artists at the gallery were thrilled with the huge response and fabulous entries we received from you, for our last Community Show, and we're all looking forward to seeing more of your inspiring works. Donna Wright is our judge this time around; she is a local mixed-media watercolor and collage artist, currently teaching at the Coquille Valley Art Center. Her husband Ron is also teaching wood carving there, so be sure to check out their classes online.

A special Thanks to: Laura Noel, who graciously loaned us her image for the CTA and to my Co-Chairs Jean and Val, all have their work on display at Art by the Sea. We hope you decide to join in the fun; please be sure to invite your friends to participate, too.

Enjoy the weekend. It's Cranberry Festival time already, WOW!
