Parents, I need your help.

Please talk with your kids about the unsafe riding of dirt bikes and four-wheelers, etc through town. They are your responsibility, and we want to keep them—and everyone else—safe.

The Sheriff's Office is aware of the situation, and continued unsafe or unlawful riding may lead to law-enforcement action, including consequences involving the vehicles. I would much rather see this handled at home.

Please help us address this before someone gets hurt. If you have questions, I encourage you to call me at 304-550-7817.

We received the following message from a concerned citizen: "If parents are allowing their children to ride 4-wheelers on roads, they need to make sure those kids are following road rules... Please, people! Talk to your kids about riding SAFELY! I'm not trying to get these kids in trouble, just trying to bring awareness."

The citizen indicated that the ATVs were driving at a fast speed in the lane of incoming traffic, and the driver had to slam on their brakes to avoid hitting the youth. Even when not traveling at excessive speed, any collision on an off road vehicle is likely to cause injury.
