Department of Psychiatry UMSOM The Department of Psychiatry has a tripartite mission of Clinical, Education, and Research agendas, and we serve our community and the state of Maryland.

The Department of Psychiatry at the University of Maryland School of Medicine is dedicated to training providers of the highest caliber and to providing top-quality mental health services to all who need it, no matter their age, race or economic status. We offer a wide range of clinical services, including psychiatric treatment for children, adults and geriatric patients; behavioral health service

s such as Employee Assistance programs; and treatment for drug and alcohol addictions. This assistance is available on both an inpatient and outpatient basis at various facilities throughout the Baltimore area. See our various divisions. The Department of Psychiatry's externally funded research portfolio currently exceeds $15 million and is growing rapidly. Constance Lacap, DO, was selected by the UMB Faculty Center for Teaching and Learning to be a PROPEL Fellow for the 2026–2027 academic year.

Dr. Lacap’s study, which focuses on the Pre-Clerkship Clinical Correlates Curriculum in Medical Education intervention, stood out in a competitive review process for its potential to result in a scholarly dissemination during the fellowship period.
