At MWPH, we’re working to better support whole-child health by addressing food insecurity among the families we serve.
Families in need are connected with Weekend Backpack food packages through our partnership with the Weekend Backpack Program, providing 18 meals per pack for a family of four over two days.
We’ve also added a free, weekly-restocked food pantry in our outpatient center to help ensure families have consistent access to nutritious food. Meeting families where they are, with care and compassion.

In our latest issue of Handprints, we feature the Patient Parent Perspective of Joana Rico, sharing her family’s experience and her daughter Adelyn’s care journey at MWPH.
Adelyn, who has spastic diplegia cerebral palsy, has received outpatient therapy, specialist care, and inpatient rehabilitation following a rhizotomy in March 2026. During her recovery, she made meaningful progress with the support of her care team—and especially enjoyed visits with facility dog, Bata.

Our Occupational Therapy and Child Life & Therapeutic Recreation teams brought the excitement of the World Cup to our patients through engaging activities that combined fun, socialization, and skill-building. From ADL (activities of daily living) participation to leisure exploration and individualized goal achievement, patients had opportunities to learn, connect, and celebrate together.

Hope Beyond Heartbreak
After a devastating accident during a family trip to India, Parth Patel’s journey led him from acute care at the University of Maryland Medical System to intensive rehabilitation at Mt. Washington Pediatric Hospital.
Today, Parth continues to grow, connect, and enjoy life—supported by a care team that became like family.
“Even after 10+ years, when I walk in that building, I feel like I’m home.”

After five incredible months, five-year-old Trey is heading home with his family today — and our hearts are so full! Trey came to us from Johns Hopkins Children's Center after complications from a viral infection, and the progress he has made has inspired every single person at MWPH.
We are so proud of you, Trey. Go shine! 🌟

Sometimes the most meaningful connections happen when you least expect them. 💙

While participating in our Feeding Day Treatment Program, two patients discovered more than new foods and new skills—they found a friendship. As they worked toward their individual goals, they encouraged one another, celebrated successes together, and built a bond that continues beyond the program.

Their story is a reminder that healing, growth, and confidence often happen alongside connection and community.
