Anna Baetjer Society is kicking off our Public Health in Practice spotlight series.

We are excited to begin by highlighting the creativity, and behavior change programs being carried out by BSPH students through campaigns designed to translate public health principles into actionable, everyday practice.

Today, presents the culmination of a student-led behavior change campaign developed through the Health Communication Programs I & II course at BSPH and built around one simple but needed recall: our your eyes need rest too.

Take 60 is a campaign designed to encourage 60-second screen breaks for eye health and mental refocus amidst a norm of prolonged digital use and screen fatigue.

Interested in learning more about the development, implementation, and evaluation of Take 60? Join their final presentation today, May 12 from 3:30–5:20 p.m. in W1214 Sheldon Hall or via Zoom with meeting ID: 942 7493 5346, passcode: campaigns.

We look forward to continuing to spotlight student-led public health work throughout the Bloomberg School of Public Health community.

From the laboratory to the field and data modeling to bedside research, women are driving innovation, equity, and protection in public health and science. Statistics from UNESCO reveal that women make up approximately 33% of researchers worldwide!

In the United States, women now earn over half of all science and engineering bachelor’s degrees, yet they remain underrepresented in many senior leadership and technical roles. Women comprise a large portion of the public health workforce as well, and continue to strive despite leadership gaps and pay disparities.

Our diverse perspectives strengthen scientific inquiry, improve research design, and lead to more equitable health outcomes.

Here’s to our epidemiologists, clinical researchers, vaccine scientists, biostatisticians, laboratory scientists, environmental health professionals, and beyond.

Women don’t just participate in science.
They lead it. They advance it. They protect communities through it.

Happy International Day of Women and Girls in Science. Tag your favorite women in STEM!

ABS is back! And this week, it’s all about the heart.

We recognize multiple observances that highlight the importance of heart health to our lives and our communities. Heart disease remains the leading cause of death worldwide, and necessitates prevention, early detection, and education essential to public health.

We honor Congenital Heart Disease (CHD) Awareness Week and bring attention to heart conditions present at birth that affect millions of children and adults worldwide. Our increased awareness supports early diagnosis, lifelong care, and better outcomes for individuals and families living with CHD. Thanks to advances in pediatric cardiology, 90% of children with CHD now survive to adulthood.

At the same time, we celebrate Cardiovascular Professionals Week, and recognize the physicians, nurses, researchers, technologists, and professionals, here at Bloomberg School of Public Health and across the nation, whose work saves lives every day through preventative care and innovation.

Heart disease is the number one killer of women and claims more lives than cancer. However, it is largely preventable through lifestyle changes, regular screenings, and knowledge of warning signs.

In honor of National Wear Red Day, we’re showing love to our hearts in a visible way. WEAR RED to school this Friday, February 13th in support of heart health awareness and join us from 12:00p.m. to 3:00p.m. at Wall of Wonder to meet the E-Board and get some treats! ❤️

👩🏽‍🍼 It’s World Health Day!

Healthy beginnings matter — for mums, babies, and entire communities! But millions still lack access to life-saving care at birth.

🕑 Every 2 minutes, a woman dies from preventable causes related to pregnancy and childbirth. By the time you finish reading this post, someone’s mother, sister, or friend may have lost her life.

Maternal and newborn health is not a luxury. It is a right. Let’s invest in for all.

In honor of World Autism Day, we are a reminded of the work there is to do.

📉 Only 30% of autistic people are employed.
🧠 8 in 10 experience mental health issues.
🏫 Just 26% of autistic pupils feel happy at school.
These numbers are more than statistics, they reflect real lives.

At ABS, we stand for inclusion, understanding, and action.

Let’s do better. For everyone.
