It has been a little over a year since the Maryland Child Care Scholarship was placed on a temporary freeze on new enrollments for newly approved families due to funding. The freeze began on May 1, 2025.
The freeze has been challenging for many families this past year. However, the Child Care Scholarship strongly encourages eligible families to join the waitlist until new spots become available as soon as they can.
Please note:
Families currently receiving TCA, SSI, or TANF are not subject to the waitlist
The waitlist applies only to newly enrolled families who do not currently have a child using the scholarship.

On May 19th, 2026, from 12:00pm-1:00pm the Maryland State Department of Education, Child Care Scholarship Division is hosting open office hours for providers or families in need of child care scholarship support. Child Care Scholarship Central 2 representatives are ready to assist with any questions about applications, payments, or managing a scholarship account.
