UMSOP's Tablets and Capsules Hands-On Short Course is one of only two programs of its kind in the United States, offering an immersive, week-long experience that takes participants through every stage of tablet and capsule manufacturing.
From raw materials and formulation to production, quality testing, and regulatory considerations, participants gain hands-on experience inside UMSOP's Applied Pharmaceutics Lab, a Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) facility used to manufacture products for clinical trials.

The award recognizes Dr. Layson-Wolf's innovative approach to teaching pharmacy history, creating engaging learning experiences that help students understand how the profession's past continues to influence modern pharmacy practice and patient care. Through pharmacy history poster presentations, students in the Professional Foundations of Pharmacy course explored the professionโs evolution while building teamwork, communication, and research skills.
Dr. Layson-Wolfโs dedication to educational excellence is helping prepare future pharmacists with a deeper appreciation of the profession they are entering.

UMSOP is expanding its global impact through a new agreement with Nigeriaโs National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control to support scientific training and collaboration in regulatory science and public health. ๐๐
This partnership will help advance shared goals in strengthening drug safety systems, enhancing regulatory science capacity, and improving health outcomes through education, training, and scientific exchange.

Please join us in congratulating Hongbing Wang, PhD, on being named a University of Maryland, Baltimore (UMB) Distinguished University Professor, the highest appointment awarded to a faculty member at UMB. ๐๐
An internationally recognized leader in drug metabolism, drug-induced liver injury, and liver disease research, Dr. Wang's discoveries have advanced our understanding of how drugs are processed in the body and have helped inform drug development, patient care, and regulatory decision-making.
Beyond his research accomplishments, Dr. Wang is a dedicated educator, mentor, and leader whose impact can be seen across UMSOP and throughout the scientific community. His trainees have gone on to leadership roles in academia, industry, and government, and his work continues to influence the future of precision medicine and pharmaceutical sciences.
