This past Friday, MICA's Ratcliffe Center for Creative Entrepreneurship celebrated 10 years of the UP/Start Venture Competition.
The day started with a buzzing Creative Entrepreneurship Expo and wrapped with 7 inspiring pitches from student ventures. In the end, 4 teams were awarded funding and will host pop-ups in our CEINNOV Lab!
Huge congrats to the 2025 winners and to every venture that brought their ideas to life — we see your hustle and heart.

🏆 Congratulations to one of the Fall 2023 MPS capstone winners, Sankalpa Patil '23 (UX Design, MPS)!
👚Sankalpa's capstone project focused on the fashion industry which poses a significant environmental challenge, ranking among the most polluting sectors worldwide.
👚Sankalpa wanted to address this issue by exploring ways to rethink materials, processes, and shopping habits, aiming to reduce environmental impact and meet consumer demands for sustainability.
⚡️She generated an API Integration that assesses products. With that assessment, consumers compare the product's sustainability from different brands through Greenly Google Chrome Extension Design.

Congratulations to Jaylyn W. (grade 11) and Diamon C. (grade 10) who participated in this year’s Courting Art Baltimore contest and won scholarships and free placement in our High School Studios class 👏 shown here is their work 🤩
Students from Baltimore City public high schools submitted artwork, through various mediums, expressing the theme “Baltimore Bright.” Scholarships, totaling $20,500, were awarded to seven student finalists for art programs and post-high school degrees.

🕯️Beyond Crisis: Lives Saved. Strategies for hope amidst the opioid and fentanyl crises
🕯️Beyond Crisis: Lives Saved is an easily navigable scrollytelling resource for friends and family members of those suffering with opioid use disorder. The website aims to provide clarity around the opioid epidemic and encourage evidence-based solutions that are proven to reduce overdoses, save lives, and give those with substance use disorder opportunities for effective treatment rather than put them behind bars.
✨ Jessica has a background in illustration making animations, infographics, and some basic data visualizations for the Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC).
