We want to thank everyone for attending our Conversations with Artists series last night, featuring Ernest Shaw! We couldn’t have asked for a better turnout.

We want to thank for not only his incredibly thoughtful and engaging presentation, but also for bringing his students from MICA! Building community relationships is an important aspect to our program that we hope to continue.

Also, a big thank you to the Maryland State Arts Council for sponsoring our Conversations with Artists Series!

In this exhibition, Prof. Baskin will have 2 works of bobbin lace, one of which is an “in progress” piece and the other that will be part of a worktable of touchable materials.

This exhibition opens this coming Sunday, October 1st, and runs through January 7th, 2024, with a Members Preview Party on Saturday, September 30th. We hope you will take in the exhibition!

In Film Photography in the Digital World, Professor Steck Jr.’s students used large format pinhole cameras for the first time, using Harmen Direct Positive Paper.

For this exercise, we first looked at some of the early Daguerreotype portraits, which had exposure times of up to a half-hour long. Students then paired up to take long-exposure portraits of each other, with exposure times ranging from 3-6 minutes long. This exercise served not only as a way to learn about the history of photography but also the importance of patience within analog practices.
