Things got a little Mod Podgy in fifth grade this morning.

Ms. Rutner stopped by and made the very wise decision to pull up a chair and start crafting! The girls were happy to help her with her High Holiday plate, including the all-important job of selecting the patterns.

Thanks to Morah Faigie Friedman for a fun morning of creativity and getting everyone in the High Holiday spirit! ๐ŸŽ๐Ÿฏ

P.S. Apparently, Rabbi Hirsch deserves a little Mod Podge credit, too. ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿคฃ

Before the start of school, our coaches gathered for Coaches Night and spent some time sharing memories of the coaches who helped shape them - not just as athletes, but as people.

As they shared memories of those coaches, it was clear that what they took away had very little to do with technique. What stayed with them were the lessons about character... how to carry yourself, how to treat others, what to stand for, and what it means to be a good teammate and a good person.

Now, as coaches themselves, they have the opportunity to pass those lessons along to a new generation of student-athletes, and become the coaches our students will remember years from now.

BT Plusโ€™ Garden Club planted their vegetables back in the spring, and today our students got to see that all that planting paid off! ๐ŸŒฑ๐Ÿ…๐Ÿซ‘

Tomatoes, poblanos, bell peppers, basil, and lemon verbena made their way out of the garden and into some very happy hands.

This is just one of the many activities our students can enjoy through BT Plus, our award-winning extended day program.

Being the โ€œseniorsโ€ of the middle school comes with some perks, but it also comes with responsibility.

This morning, our eighth graders dug into what leadership really looks like... noticing who needs to be included, making good choices, creating a sense of belonging, and setting an example for younger students.

They brainstormed, debated, storyboarded, and shared ideas about the kind of leaders they want to be this year.

Mazel Tov to our Director of Dance, Rachel Miller! ๐Ÿ’ƒ๐Ÿ‘

Rachel was recently selected as a USA Cheerleader, a highly competitive program requiring rigorous auditions and mastery of multiple forms of dance and athletic performance. Itโ€™s the result of years of hard work and dedication to her craft.

Through the USA Cheer program, Rachel recently participated in , a full-day rehabilitation and recreation clinic featuring like sailing and kayaking for disabled and injured military veterans.

Rachel holds a B.A. in Dance and brings her training in choreography, performance, and multiple styles of dance to her work. If youโ€™ve been around the BT community for a while, youโ€™ve probably seen her intricate choreography at our annual dance concert (held each spring) and BT Community Theatre performances.

Our students also get to learn from her through dance classes, as well as GWAP (Grade-Wide Arts Program) and SWAP (School-Wide Arts Program) - weekly opportunities for every student to choose an arts offering that interests them.

Rachel is constantly expanding her own skills and bringing that experience back to our student dancers, and they get to learn from someone whoโ€™s still out there training, performing, creating, and using her skills to make a difference.

During our recent week of professional development, our teachers and administrators welcomed Kristen Jacobsen, Co-Director of Cognitive Connections, who specializes in executive function and helping students build these skills.

Executive function is the set of skills that helps us plan, organize, remember, manage our time, and figure out what comes next.

When those skills donโ€™t come as easily, even something as simple as getting to math class with the right book, pencil, and homework can be a challenge. And in a world where information and technology are always at our fingertips, these skills matter more than ever - and understanding them helps us better support each of our students and set them up for success.
