SAW, FILE, SOLDER at the BJC Potluck! Come join us at the BJC this Friday, August 21, from 6-8pm.

We’re finishing Summer at the BJC with something fun. Come and test your speed in the Saw, File, Solder challenge. We have a Gold, Silver and Bronze trophy, sculpted and cast at the BJC, to give away to the fastest challengers.

If that wasn’t enough, J Taran Diamond will be giving a free gold plating demonstration and there will be work made by Summer students on display.

This is a FREE event, but everyone is welcome to bring food to share. See you there!

We have 2 remaining single-day workshops this Summer with available seats.

In Sandcasting with Elliot Keeley, you will work with wax and sand to create molds for casting bronze objects. This fun and iterative process is an accessible alternative to lost wax casting that can also be used with precious metals.

In Ring in a Day with Stevie Pniewski, you will fabricate textured ring bands in both copper and silver from start to finish. Walk away with something you can wear!

Both classes require no previous jewelry making or metals experience, are a great introduction to BJC classes and are a fun Summer activity.

Grab one of the final seats while they’re still available! See the Classes and Workshops link in our bio.

This Saturday: YouthWork Sale Catalog Coffee from 8:30am - 1:30pm.

Since 2019 we have spent our summers partnering with the Mayor’s Office as a YouthWorks Jobsite. Through this program the BJC hosts 3-5 teen summer employees. Our YouthWorks employees work five days a week for five weeks to plan and create a small batch of production jewelry. Each summer wraps up with a sale during which our teens take their work to the public and try out their new found sales techniques. This year’s End of Summer Sale will take place outside of Catalog Coffee in Hampden on August 1st. Work will be available for sale from 8:30am - 1:30pm.

Along with our YouthWorks summer program, we also host a Bloomberg Arts Intern. The Bloomberg Arts Internship is a means of providing rising seniors with real life work experience as they prepare to leave high school. Bloomberg Arts Interns start their summer off by joining our YouthWorks employees for an intensive summer training. Along with working, making jewelry and participating in the sale, our BAl participant spends the summer making infographics, recording content for social media, and ultimately filming a short video documenting the end of summer sale.
