Deja Vu - We are not surprised, we are not afraid, and we're ready to protect the funding for Afterschool and Summer Programs, which enjoy broad bi-partisan support in Congress. But we do have to take action and use our voices - like we did last time to tell the stories of the millions of young people and their families that would be impacted if 21 CCLC was cut or elminated.

As we continue celebrating AmeriCorps Week, MOST would like to highlight another hardworking, dedicated VISTA member. Isabel serves as a Program Coordinator and is currently in her 7th month serving at Latinas Leading Tomorrow working on their Maryland expansion. Thank you, Isabel!

Last night, over 75 young people and youth development professionals headed to Annapolis to share their perspectives on how young people can Thrive In Real Life and support HB1278 sponsored by Delegate Stephanie Smith. We had 7 organizations and 8 counties represented and visited more than 30 Senators and Delegates. Thanks to partners, the Maryland Youth Advisory Council, MD4CS, MENTOR Maryland DC, sponsor Baltimore's Promise, and participants Community Bridges Inc., Montgomery County Recreation, Stella's Girls Inc, Mission Fit, Seeds 4 Success,Barnes & Scott Youth at Law, among others who joined us!

Becky Zarrella is serving as the Grow Curriculum and Program Coordinator at Seeds 4 Success in Annapolis, Maryland.

At Seeds 4 Success, Becky is working on expanding after-school programming for under-resourced high school students in Annapolis. This work includes volunteer recruitment, community partnership formation, data analysis, instructional design, and curriculum development. What she loves most about working at her service site is getting to know the program participants, and then tailoring activities and field trips to fit their unique interests and goals.

The coming snowstorm on Monday has forced Maryland Out of School Time Network to reschedule our Thriving IRL - Positive Youth Development Advocacy Event until Monday, March 9. The good news is that now more groups can sign up. We had about 75 students and 25 adults planning to attend before - let's make it over 100 students and reach more legislators with youth voices!
