Academia: Pharmacists play a variety of roles in academia: as administrators (e.g., provosts, deans, dept chairs, associate deans, etc.), educators, clinical practitioners, and researchers. Often a faculty member plays more than one role, depending on their track (e.g., non-tenure track faculty primarily provide patient care and hands-on teaching to APPE students, whereas tenure-track faculty primarily conduct research and teach classes) and department (e.g., faculty in pharmaceutical sciences teach basic science courses and conduct bench research, whereas faculty in pharmacy practice department teach therapeutics courses and conduct clinical or health outcomes research).
