Fun times at the department holiday party!

The administrative staff enjoyed a fun teambuilding experience today making creative projects at AR Workshop in Reisterstown.

Two of our faculty have been awarded rotating endowments. Dr. Sabriya Linton has been awarded the Francis B. and Mary E. Milligan award for innovative mental heath research. Dr. Sarah Murray has been awarded the Dr. Ali and Rose Kawi Professorship. Congratulations to Sabriya and Sarah!

Congratulations to Lian-yu Chen, PhD '14 on her new position as Director General of National Health Insurance Administration in Taiwan!

She received her psychiatric residency training in Taipei City Psychiatric Center and later obtained her Ph.D. at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health in the Department of Mental Health. She is as an assistant professor in the Institute of Epidemiology and Preventive Medicine at National Taiwan University and an associate professor in National Chung Hsing University.

She has conducted numerous studies on service utilization, prescription drug abuse, addiction and mental health issues. Her work has appeared in many prestigious journals, including the American Journal of Psychiatry, Journal of Clinical Psychiatry, and Drug and Alcohol Dependence. She has received several awards including the Outstanding Alumni Award from College of Medicine of National Cheng Kung University, the Residential Kyorin Award from Taipei Medical Association, the National Anti-Drug Award, the Best Thesis Award from Taiwanese Society of Addiction Sciences, the Phi Beta Kappa Award from Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, the Lucy Shum Award, Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health.

The Department had our holiday Winterfest last night. It was such fun and it great that so many students, staff and faculty were in attendance!

Today is World Su***de Prevention Day.

Last year, almost 50,000 Americans died by su***de. In 2022, su***de was the second leading cause of death for young people ages 10-14 and 25-34, and the su***de rate for veterans was 50% higher than for anyone else.
