The Academic Success Center traces its roots to the 1970’s, when the Learning Resources Center opened as the first academic support center on campus. Over the decades, the Learning Resources Center helped students reach their potential through tutoring, supplemental instruction, and many other services focused on creating life-long, independent learners. In 2019, the Learning Resources Center merg

ed with Academic Standards and Policy Administration and the newly created Academic Advocacy program to create the Academic Success Center. In this new capacity, we provide centralized support services to all undergraduate students at UMBC. Through a coordinated approach and an unwavering commitment to student success, the Academic Success Center fosters a welcoming environment for all students. We provide a one-stop opportunity through Academic Policy, Academic Learning Resources, and Academic Advocacy for students to achieve their academic goals.

March is National Social Work Month, recognizing the dedication and empathy of social workers across the country. “Social workers are advocates, advisors, counselors, and facilitators in schools, clinics, businesses, and government offices who provide a voice for equal rights for the weakest of us and connect us to resources when we are in need.”

With qualities like this, its no surprise that our friends and colleagues from the School of Social Work were among the first faculty to visit the UMBC Academic Success Center, chat with our student team and take a tour of the newly renovated space so they could become fully knowledgeable of the resources when providing care! 😍

This month-long observance is an opportunity to learn more about social work careers and how social workers provide a vital service to every community.

Until then, please note that ALL academic support services provided by the ASC are still available to students.
