Trent Pomplun, author of *Jesuit on the Roof of the World: Ippolito Desideri's Mission to Tibet* (Oxford, 2009), follows up his masterful study of Jesuit missionary activity in Asia in the 18th century, with an article in Divus Thomas (120) on the scholarly role of religious orders and their missions work in learning Asian languages during the Renaissance.
