In this episode of What’s the Buzz, Chris Frew sits down with Tita Tavares of the Parenteral Drug Association (PDA) for a preview of the upcoming PDA/FDA conference in Washington, D.C.

Rather than simply previewing another industry conference, the conversation will explore why direct engagement between regulators and industry matters, what attendees can expect to learn, and how professionals can use the conference to better understand the issues shaping pharmaceutical manufacturing and quality.

Tita will highlight how the program is designed around real challenges facing different functions across the industry—from FDA center updates for regulatory affairs professionals, to CAPA and effectiveness checks for quality teams, to risk-based manufacturing topics for manufacturing and technical operations professionals.

The conversation will also spotlight an important but often overlooked audience: early-career professionals. PDA is putting increased emphasis on helping the next generation of pharmaceutical professionals access its community, educational programming, conferences, and industry experts. The episode can position attendance not simply as a conference expense, but as a professional development investment for emerging talent and the managers responsible for developing them.

Finally, Chris and Tita will bring the discussion home to the Mid-Atlantic life sciences community: one of the industry's most significant regulatory gatherings is happening right in Washington, D.C., giving professionals throughout the region a unique opportunity to connect with regulators, industry leaders, and peers without having to travel across the country.

In this episode of What's the Buzz?!, we're joined by Amir Liba of Agilent Technologies, a leader whose career runs from the applications bench to the commercial front lines of analytical science. The conversation explores a shift that has been building quietly for years: as pipelines move toward peptides, oligonucleotides, and complex biologics, the analytical method — not the molecule — increasingly sets the pace of a program.

We dig into where the real bottlenecks sit between late-stage R&D and quality control, what changes when regulators treat an analytical procedure as a lifecycle rather than a deliverable, and how instrument makers, standards bodies, and drug developers can actually collaborate rather than talk past each other. Amir also gives a first look at the BioPharma Analytical Innovation Summit 2026, coming to Malvern this September, and why Agilent is bringing it to the Greater Philadelphia biocluster.
