GO HOP! Johns Hopkins University ranks No. 9 among national universities in the latest undergraduate rankings from U.S. News and World Report.

Hopkins also ranked No. 4 in undergraduate research/creative projects, reflecting the university’s longstanding commitment to providing students with opportunities to engage in research and creative projects beyond the classroom. More than 90% of Hopkins undergraduates participate in at least one research experience during their time at the university, spending an average of 6 to 10 hours per week on their research.

Additional JHU rankings for undergraduate programs and academic disciplines include:

• No. 1 in biomedical engineering
• No. 5 (tied) in biocomputing/bioinformatics/biotechnology
• No. 12 in engineering

Nearly 1,600 first-year and transfer students came together for Democracy Day as part of orientation, beginning their time at Johns Hopkins with conversations about civic engagement and what it means to be an active member of a community.

Today, on National Voter Registration Day, Hopkins Votes is continuing that work by helping eligible Blue Jays register and get ready to participate in the upcoming election.

Announcing the newest Irene and Richard Frary Gallery exhibition, "Jeffrey Gibson: A Real Love Thing," opening Oct. 27.

This fall, the at the Johns Hopkins University Bloomberg Center will present "Jeffrey Gibson: A Real Love Thing," a focused presentation that explores the past decade of acclaimed interdisciplinary artist Jeffrey Gibson's multimedia practice across sculpture, photography, printmaking, textile, and painting.

"A Real Love Thing" brings together 15 works in Gibson’s practice—from embedded song lyrics and phrases to the repetitions of color, pattern, and form—that showcase Gibson’s poetic sensibility and use of beauty as a strategy for catalyzing our collective imagination toward a more connected, compassionate future.

For Ahmed Hassoon, assistant research professor of epidemiology at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, a five-year federal award offered the opportunity to pursue research that could help improve care for people with lung cancer.

His AHRQ-funded project focused on understanding why some patients experience delayed lung cancer diagnoses. However, one year into the project, the funding was cancelled, forcing Hassoon to stop his research and leaving him without most of his salary.

The cancelled awards supported the work of early-career researchers at Johns Hopkins and beyond is a loss that jeopardizes not only their critical work but also the pipeline of talent interested in pursuing scientific research in the United States. https://bit.ly/46duPJe

Twenty-five years ago today, our world changed forever.

On September 11, 2001, nearly 3,000 people lost their lives in the terrorist attacks in New York, at the Pentagon, and in Pennsylvania. We remember those lives today, along with the first responders and service members who showed extraordinary courage and sacrifice.

The Johns Hopkins University community was changed that day, too, as we mourned the loss of our community members and came together in grief and remembrance.

Today, we pause to remember, honor, and reflect.
