Hey Millennials, wanna feel old? Watch this! 🄓🄲⁣
⁣
I was inspired by repost yesterday of another teacher doing something similar, so I decided to make my own and see how my kids did. This was the perfect way to start a Friday! I was laughing so hard, I almost fell off my chair *excuse the shaky video at times*⁣
⁣
I teach 5th grade, so for any non-teachers watching this, my kids are 10-11 years old, and were mostly born in 2011. ⁣
⁣
I only posted funny guesses that were completely wrong šŸ˜‚ā£
⁣
My students ultimately got 8/20 correct! I was pretty impressed with that.⁣
⁣
After some guessing, here are the ones that at least 1 student knew:⁣
-Spice Girls⁣
-Britney Spears⁣
-Beyoncé ⁣
-50 Cent⁣
-Eminem⁣
-Shakira⁣
-Jay Z⁣
-Lil Wayne⁣
⁣
Here are the ones that not a single student had a clue:⁣
-N*Sync⁣
-Backstreet Boys⁣
-Nelly⁣
-Aaron Carter⁣
-Christina Aguilera⁣
-Zac Efron⁣
-Jonas Brothers⁣
-Hilary Duff⁣
-Avril Lavigne⁣
-Rihanna⁣
-Black Eyed Peas⁣
-Outkast⁣
⁣
What other stuff should I see if my kids know? I’m thinking of starting ā€œFun Fridayā€ and doing something like this every Friday morning 🤪 If you missed it, I shared these slides in my stories. Please tag me if you recorded your students’ guesses!

šŸ‘‹šŸ¼ Hey! What’s up? I’ve been taking a much-needed break from this account for a while. I realized that as I’ve grown as a teacher, I don’t often feel like talking about my job when I’m not at work. Sometimes I do, sometimes I don’t. This space was starting to make me feel like I HAD to come on here and share about what I’m doing in my classroom to please people. I don’t like letting people down, so it was starting to weigh on me. You might’ve noticed I’ve barely been on here since school started. If teaching for 6 years has taught me anything, it’s taught me that now I have to set boundaries. I take breaks when I need them. I don’t force myself to do something I don’t feel like doing. If you need a sign to set boundaries, this is it. You don’t owe anyone anything. Ever. So this is my announcement to you that, yes, I’m still alive. I’m still here. I’ll still be posting and talking on here when I feel like it, but that may not be everyday. It may not even be every week. Sometimes it may be teaching-related. Sometimes it may be about other parts of my life. This is my space and it can be whatever I want it to be. If you want to follow along, then yay! If you don’t, there are absolutely no hard feelings. I’m not doing this for followers. I’m not doing this for ads and partnerships and promotions. This is an outlet for me. It’s a hobby, a fun space, and a place to share and connect with other educators, and other people in general. The second it starts to feel like work, I take a step back. This is me being honest. So, here are some pics of me doing fall things today with my family! Sometimes I have weekends where I do absolutely nothing for work, sometimes I do some work because it makes me feel better and at ease. Either way, I’m so much more than a teacher. I have good days. I have bad days. I have okay days. I have days when I think about leaving the classroom, and I have days when I get upset with myself for ever thinking about that. It’s a rollercoaster. Remember: Instagram is a highlight reel. We’re all people behind the screen. My life is more than lil squares on the internet, and I love sharing bits and pieces with you, but this isn’t my whole story. šŸ¤

Are you considered a ā€œveteran teacherā€ once you need to use two hands to show how long you’ve been teaching? Asking for a friend. Year 6 in 5th grade, here we go! šŸ¤ŖāœļøšŸ“ššŸ˜ŽšŸ„°šŸ„³

Teachers, you know what I’m saying 🄓🄰 The first time meeting your students and their families is always such a mix of emotions: excitement, nerves, overwhelm, joy, and so much more! Each year, we have a ā€œSneak a Peek at Your Seatā€ (same thing as ā€œMeet the Teacherā€) event where students and their families can come meet their teacher and see their classroom before the first day of school! Even though it can be overwhelming to make sure everything is all set up, to talk to so many families at once, and it can definitely be sensory overload, I usually find that meeting my students makes me feel at ease. We spend a week preparing, planning, setting up, having meetings, etc. and then finally meeting the kids reminds me why I do it. It makes me so excited for the first day of school and the year ahead! Our first day of school is on Monday and I’m FINALLY feeling ready! Just a couple more hours of preparation and meeting my kids, and then a much-deserved weekend before my SIXTH year of teaching begins! 😳🄳🄲

I was today years old when I realized that a bunch of my incoming 5th graders haven’t been in the school building since March of 3rd grade 🄓 *deep breaths* Let’s be patient with our students, patient with their families, and patient with ourselves. Say it with me: We. Are. Still. In. A. Pandemic! Remember, whatever this school year brings, we can do it. If the past couple years have taught me anything, it’s that teachers are resilient. Sending virtual hugs! šŸ’›

Get your beauty sleep now, teachers. The school year is coming. 🄲😓⁣
⁣
If you couldn’t tell, this is totally a joke 🤪 Hey , Thanks for letting me sleep in every day this summer and being quiet in the morning. I’ll try to do the same in a few weeks when I’m up before you šŸ˜‰ love you!!!⁣
⁣
Teachers, over the summer, are you able to go back to sleep once your partner gets up, gets ready, and leaves for work? Do you sleep through it? Do you wake up? How much longer do you sleep? I wake up when his alarm goes off and am usually half asleep while he gets ready. Once I hear the door close and he’s gone, I fall back in a deep sleep for at least 2 more hours, sometimes more šŸ¤«šŸ˜‚ I’ll take it while it lasts. ⁣
