Come hear James Aluri (MS III) and Justin Lowenthal (MS III) share their thoughts and experiences in the field of bioethics. The event is sponsored by the Bioethics Interest Group - Students Engaging in Ethics Discussions (BIG-SEED)

• James Aluri will explain the role of the Presidential Commission for the Study of Bioethical Issues—where he currently works as a research associate—and share the findings of the Commission’s Moral Science report which discusses human subjects research regulations.
• Justin Lowenthal will share an update on recent discussions involving genome editing and mitochondrial transfer IVF ("3 Parent Embryos") that have been occurring at the national level, will discuss the science behind using stem cells and genome editing, and will share some of his work on the ethics of embryo manipulation for mitochondrial disease in the context of a public health ethics lens.
There will be plenty of time for hearty discussion and debate after the talks.
Lunch will be provided!

The Mayo Clinic Biomedical Ethics Program seeks applicants for its 2015 Summer Undergraduate Student Program!
This 10 week program places each student with a faculty mentor to work on a particular research project for the summer. In addition, students participate in an ethics summer curriculum, which includes educational sessions on bioethics research methods and lunch meetings with members of the program faculty. Compensation is provided.

The Hopkins Undergraduate Bioethics Society (HUBS) hosted a forum that discussed the bioethics of euthanasia and physician-assisted su***de on Nov. 13 in the AMR I Multipurpose Room. The forum focused on a person’s right to end their own life in the face of terminal illness.
