Join us on Thursday, August 1, 2024, at 9:00 a.m. as the Arlington County Poet Laureate Courtney LeBlanc debuts a newly commissioned poem for Dark Star Park Day!
An annual Arlington tradition, every August 1, at approximately 9:32 a.m., Nancy Holt’s Dark Star Park performs a special effect. Shadows cast by the spheres and poles of this landmark outdoor sculpture align with their permanent forms on the ground, marking the day of Rosslyn’s founding. In honor of the 40th anniversary of the dedication of the artwork, this year’s event will be augmented by an official County proclamation, free commemorative posters and a debut poem by Arlington Poet Laureate Courtney Le Blanc.
Dark Star Park is located at 1655 N. Fort Myer Drive (at the convergence of N. Fort Myer Drive and N. Lynn Street, just off Route 50/Arlington Boulevard and two blocks from Rosslyn Metro).

National Hospital Week 2021: Thank You to Maryland Hospitals 05/12/2021

This week is National Hospital Week. Over the last year tens of thousands of health care workers across Maryland and the globe put their lives on the line and on hold to take care of the rest of us.

Maryland Hospital Association along with Baltimore's Mayor Brandon M. Scott and community partners including Morgan State University Choir and and Fatal Attraction Step Squad from Coach G Academy put together this lovely video message of appreciation. Globe contributed graphics to the project.

Thank you hospital heroes for all you have done and continue to do!

On the third Monday of January we honor the legacy of Martin Luther King Jr., and his tireless activism to bring justice and equality for Black lives. We must continue to examine our history and learn from our past to ensure a future where Black lives have equal opportunities to health, wealth, education, safety, and joy.

This year Globe worked with the incredible Jermaine Bell (MICA' 13) to design and print this edition of Black Lives Continue to Matter posters. The posters are for sale in our shop (link in bio) with a portion of the proceeds benefiting the Maryland Institute Black Archives .Online which is working to uncover MICA's Black history. MIBA is curated by (MICA CP '21)

Going into next week we need to honor voters of color, especially Black women organizers who decided the presidential election, Georgia’s runoffs, and the balance of the United States Senate. We as a democracy must work harder to amplify their activism and their voices while actively dismantling white supremacy.

By mail, by ballot box, by pulling a lever or pushing a button on November 3rd, Americans will exercise their democratic right to vote for President, Senators, Congresspeople and, in many local elections, for legislators and judges to mosquito control officers and dogcatchers. It’s a big one folks! So we’ve created a soundtrack in words and music to get you to the polls. With jazz and gospel takes on American anthems; cool versions of civil rights songs like “If I Had a Hammer” and “I Wish I Knew What It Would Feel Like to Be Free”; blues treatments warning “Be Careful How You Vote!”; a soul variation on “This Land is Your Land"; and songs about revolution… and restraint. It’s time to face the music and vote!
