🌻 Radical Joy Moment 🌻
The sunflower seeds our children planted for Mother’s Day are beginning to bloom — and the excitement has been beautiful to witness.
Tiny sprouts are pushing through the soil, reminding us that growth takes patience, care, consistency, and love. Watching the children check on their plants each day with excitement, pride, and wonder has been a powerful reminder that small seeds can grow into something meaningful.
These moments are more than gardening activities. They are lessons in nurturing, responsibility, hope, and joy.
Just like sunflowers turn toward the light, our children continue to grow when they are surrounded by love, encouragement, and community. 💛

Being a mom is both rewarding and challenging. 💛
In this age of unsolicited advice, social media comparisons, and bystander critique, the pressure to be a “perfect mother” can feel overwhelming.
But motherhood was never meant to be about perfection.
Children do not need perfect mothers. They need mothers who are present, caring, supportive, and willing to grow alongside them.
To every mother doing her best with what she has:
You are enough.
Give yourself grace today and every day. 🌻

This week, we moved into the next phase of the Close-Knit Friendship Bench—bringing color, care, and creativity into the build.
Fathers, neighbors, and children came together to paint the bench and begin constructing the planter boxes—transforming it from a structure into a living, breathing community space. 🎨🌿
What stood out most wasn’t just the progress—it was the collaboration across generations. Hands of all ages working side by side. Learning, sharing, and building something that belongs to all of us.
Built by men. Built for healing. Built for dignity.
We are deeply grateful to our GoFundMe donors 🙏🏾—your support continues to make each phase of this work possible. Because of you, this vision is not just imagined—it’s being built, step by step, by the community itself.

I want to take a moment to celebrate and honor Dr. Thelma Harms. Her work profoundly shaped the “PROFESSION” of early childhood education. I emphasize the word “profession” because Dr. Harms truly understood and lived its fullest meaning.
Many work in the field or industry of early childhood education—but only a few embody the “profession.” Dr. Harms was a leader who understood what it means to profess: to do what one says they believe.
In ECE, we often say we believe in certain principles, yet our practices don’t always reflect them:
~ We say we believe in health and safety, yet providing infants the time and dignity for proper diapering—meeting a most basic physiological need—is often seen as too costly.
~ We say we believe in family engagement, yet creating a welcoming environment where families are greeted by name can feel too difficult in a fast-paced drop-off and pick-up baby depot culture.
~ We say we believe in diversity, inclusion, and equity, yet classrooms often lack meaningful cultural, linguistic, and ability representation within our UNcreative Curriculums!
~ We say rest builds resilience, yet naptime environments is a stressful nightmare rather than a restorative dream time.
~ We say we value high-quality learning environments, yet aesthetically thoughtful, nurturing spaces are treated as optional for the budget elite rather than essential for every child’s Human Dignity.
This is why I honor Dr. Harms—because she was a true professional. She aligned her actions with her beliefs.
The Environment Rating Scales were never meant to be about a score. They were—and still are—about practice. About doing what we say we BELIEVE.
When we live our professional identity—our stance grounded in belief (faith) —it shapes the state of everything: our environments, our interactions, and ultimately, the experiences of children and families.
Rest well, Dr. Thelma Harms. Your legacy lives on in those who understand that early childhood education is not just an industry— it is a “PROFESSION” and a calling.
May the ECE field continue to grow, deepen, and mature because of your vision 🪦🕊️🙏🏿

Happy Home Visitor Week! 💛
I’ve worn many hats—educator, advocate, program leader, researcher, consultant, and community builder. But regardless of the roles I’ve held, I continue to invest deeply in home visiting models because they work!
At the Realia Institute, we prioritize our home visiting program for expectant parents and caregivers—moms, dads, grandparents—supporting children from birth to five. I’ve had the honor of walking alongside families as they rediscover their strength and rebuild connection with their children and grandchildren.
Families we partner with doing our Early Relational Health model share that their home visiting experience feels “comfortable, warm, relaxed, safe, secure”—and that’s exactly what this work is about.
Home visiting allows us to meet families where they are, build trust, and support nurturing, responsive relationships that lead to real outcomes—stronger attachment, better regulation, and healthier development.
This week, I want to give a heartfelt shoutout 📣 to all home visitors.
Your work is powerful.
Your presence matters.
You are transforming lives—one family at a time.

Over time, toxic stress can affect the brain development of infants and toddlers and increase the risk of long-term health challenges, including heart disease, mental health problems and learning difficulties.
The strongest buffer for a baby is a stable, nurturing relationship. But caregivers need support to make that possible.
