PLEASE SHARE: We are not alarmists, so here are just the facts: Our shelter's dog cages are FULL -- full to the point where a Great Dane is now housed in a shelter office. Below are our available dogs as of this morning, including some but not all of those currently in our foster homes. Also not included below are quite a few dogs we must house who are not available to the public, including some who weigh more than 100 pounds apiece. We are an open-access shelter, which means we must accept EVERY dog brought to us from Anne Arundel County, even if we no longer have empty cages to house them. We are receiving multiple "stray" dogs every day whose owners never come to reclaim them, and numerous owner give-ups as well.
Our plight is not unique. Shelters across the county are having a similar experience. To avoid being forced to euthanize adoptable dogs, we need more fosters and more adopters (we have been waiving adoption fees for months). Many of our rescue partners, especially those who take larger dogs, cannot help us because they are in similar circumstances and need adopters/fosters as well.
If you can foster or adopt, please do so. You will be saving a life. If you cannot help in that way, please share this -- and please be kind. Thank you, supporters.
