Dr. Allen Brizee and Co-Author Dr. Jaclyn M. Wells Accept Book Contract for Partners in Literacy: A Writing Center Model for Civic Engagement
Dr. Brizee, and co-author Dr. Jaclyn M. Wells (University of Alabama Birmingham), recently accepted a contract from Rowman & Littlefield for their book Partners in Literacy: A Writing Center Model for Civic Engagement. Partners in Literacy chronicles the authors’ three-year community-based literacy project at Purdue University. The project joined the Purdue Writing Lab with two non-profit organizations in Lafayette, Indiana and produced literacy resources now housed in the Civic Engagement section of the Purdue Online Writing Lab (OWL): https://owl.english.purdue.edu/engagement/34/. Partners in Literacy will be published in July 2016.

Professor Jane Satterfield awarded first place in Ledbury Poetry Festival competition.
Her poem "Forfeit" was selected by the Anglo-Welsh poet Deryn Rees-Jones. Satterfield won from a wide field of international applications. There were over 1,500 people who submitted work! Jane will read at the 2016 Festival, which will feature poets from around the globe. Jane won 1000 pounds and a course at Ty Newydd, The National Writers' Centre for Wales.

Susan Stewart is the Avalon Foundation University Professor in the Humanities: Professor of English. She also serves as Director of Princeton’s Society of Fellows in the Liberal Arts and is a member of the associated faculty of the Department of Art and Archaeology. A poet and critic, she teaches the history of poetry, poetics, and issues in aesthetics.

Students and Faculty Attended Naylor Workshop for Undergraduate Research in Writing Studies
Jean Gillingham (’16, Writing), Rachael Martines (’18, History), and Ife Okpali (’16, English/Writing and Philosophy) attended the Naylor Workshop for Undergraduate Research in Writing Studies September 25-27, 2015 on the campus of York College of Pennsylvania. Two dozen students from colleges and universities across the nation were accepted and received full funding. This prestigious workshop gives students the opportunity to develop their own research projects collaborating with teams of experienced scholars and crafting research proposals and plans.
Writing professors Lisa Zimmerelli and Martin Camper also attended the workshop, serving as mentors and giving presentations. Prof. Camper co-led a seminar on qualitative research methods and Prof. Zimmerelli co-led a seminar and gave an address on the role of public advocacy and social justice in writing studies research.
