At Baltimore Lab Schoolโ€™s Class of 2026 graduation, each senior had the chance to share their journey โ€” in their own words.

Their speeches reflected gratitude for family, appreciation for BLS, inspiration from words that guide them, and excitement for what comes next. Each story was unique, but together they spoke to perseverance, courage, being yourself, and conquering obstacles. โœจ

At Baltimore Lab, students who learn differently are supported in trying new things, stepping into new situations, learning from them, and discovering what they are capable of.

Congratulations to the Class of 2026. We are so proud of each of you and canโ€™t wait to see where your stories go next. ๐ŸŒŸ

What a year it has beenโ€”filled with learning, creativity, new experiences, growing confidence, meaningful friendships, and so many moments worth celebrating. Weโ€™re proud of all our students accomplished and grateful to the families, faculty, staff, friends, and supporters who made this year so special. ๐Ÿ’œ

Some friends will be back together for our July Summer Program, while others wonโ€™t see each other until we reunite in late August. Until then, we wish the entire Baltimore Lab School community a summer filled with fun, relaxation, and new adventures! ๐Ÿ˜Ž๐ŸŒป

At this yearโ€™s Lower School Awards Ceremony, Maggie Bove-Tyler asked our students: โ€œ๐™’๐™๐™–๐™ฉ ๐™˜๐™ค๐™ข๐™š๐™จ ๐™ฌ๐™๐™š๐™ฃ ๐™ฎ๐™ค๐™ช ๐™จ๐™ฉ๐™š๐™ฅ ๐™ค๐™ช๐™ฉ ๐™ค๐™› ๐™ฎ๐™ค๐™ช๐™ง ๐™˜๐™ค๐™ข๐™›๐™ค๐™ง๐™ฉ ๐™ฏ๐™ค๐™ฃ๐™š ๐™–๐™ฃ๐™™ ๐™™๐™ค ๐™˜๐™๐™–๐™ก๐™ก๐™š๐™ฃ๐™œ๐™ž๐™ฃ๐™œ ๐™ฉ๐™๐™ž๐™ฃ๐™œ๐™จ? ๐™”๐™ค๐™ช ๐™œ๐™ง๐™ค๐™ฌ. ๐™”๐™ค๐™ช ๐™ก๐™š๐™–๐™ง๐™ฃ.โ€

That spirit defined the year for our Lower School students. ๐Ÿ’™ They tried new things, took creative risks, explored big ideas, and showed what can happen when students are supported, challenged, and celebrated.

The ceremony honored students in each grade level, achievements in visual and performing arts ๐ŸŽจ๐ŸŽญ and recognized the creativity, curiosity, and hard work students brought to their learning in our Academic Clubs: โ€” American Revolution Club, Heralds of History, Groundbreakers Club, and Museum Club.

We also celebrated our 6th graders with a special โ€œmoving upโ€ recognition as they prepare for Middle School next year. ๐ŸŽ“โœจ

Families then enjoyed a showcase of student assignments and artwork, highlighting the amazing work completed throughout the year.

Yesterday, Baltimore Lab School celebrated graduationโ€”and it was about so much more than caps, gowns, and diplomas. It was a celebration of growth, confidence, resilience, and the future now opening in front of each member of the Class of 2026.

These seniors worked hard to reach this dayโ€”with determination, courage, and the support of families, teachers, friends, and loved ones who believed in them every step of the way. They discovered their strengths, built confidence, faced challenges, and showed what it means to keep moving forward.

The dayโ€™s speakers reminded us of that same spirit. ๐——๐—ฟ. ๐——๐—ฎ๐—ฟ๐—ถ๐—ฎ๐—ป ๐—ฆ๐—ฒ๐—ป๐—ป-๐—–๐—ฎ๐—ฟ๐˜๐—ฒ๐—ฟ inspired our graduates with his story of perseverance, self-discovery, and learning to honor the way he experiences the world. ๐— ๐—ฟ. ๐—๐—ถ๐—บ ๐—•๐˜‚๐—ฟ๐—ป๐˜€, selected as faculty speaker by the graduating class, reflected on what it means to be a Baltimore Lab School graduate: a critical thinker, problem-solver, responsible self-advocate, and engaged and compassionate global citizen. ๐Ÿ‘

Baltimore Lab School Middle School students took Outdoor Education into the field with an overnight at Patapsco State Park, where they explored a stream with Mandy and Allison from .

Students found and identified macroinvertebratesโ€”small organisms that help indicate the health of a waterway. They discovered pollution-sensitive species like mayflies, caddisflies, stoneflies, and water pennies, showing that this Patapsco tributary supports a healthy, diverse aquatic ecosystem. ๐Ÿ”๐ŸŒŠ

At BLS, hands-on learning helps students build confidence, curiosity, and real-world understanding. This trip also gave students time to connect with each other, enjoy the outdoors, and appreciate the peace and beauty of nature. ๐ŸŒณโœจ

BLS 3rd and 4th graders put the power of the sun to the test by building their own solar ovens as part of their science unit on alternative energy.

Using pizza boxes, black paper, plastic wrap, and aluminum foil, students explored how solar energy can be captured, absorbed, reflected, and trapped. And thanks to a very hot, sunny day, their experiment came with a sweet reward: melted sโ€™mores! ๐Ÿ˜‹โ˜€๏ธ

At Baltimore Lab School, hands-on learning helps students see big ideas in action โ€” building, testing, observing, and discovering for themselves.

At this 6th grade โ€œMuseum Opening,โ€ Baltimore Lab School students became curators, researchers, exhibit designers, and storytellersโ€”bringing early human civilization to life through hands-on, arts-integrated projects.

Their exhibits explored life before and after the Agricultural Revolution, ancient Sumerian-style basket weaving, the meaning of Hammurabiโ€™s laws, and advertisements for Mesopotamian inventions. ๐Ÿงบโš–๏ธ๐ŸŒพ

At BLS, learning is never just something students read aboutโ€”itโ€™s something they build, create, explain, and experience. Through our Academic Club classes that bring history and cultures to life, students strengthen historical understanding, expressive language, problem-solving skills, and confidence as they share their work with others.

Baltimore Lab School high school students recently rolled up their sleeves for a hands-on Outdoor Education project with TreeBaltimore, planting new trees along the streets surrounding BLS. ๐Ÿงค๐ŸŒฟ

With guidance from TreeBaltimore, students learned about the importance of urban trees, expanded green space, and the role each of us can play in caring for our environment. ๐ŸŒŽ๐ŸŒณ Then they got to workโ€”digging, planting, watering, and helping create something lasting for our neighborhood. ๐Ÿชด๐Ÿ’ง

Inspired in part by environmental leaders like Wangari Maathai, whose work showed the power of planting trees to strengthen communities, our students didnโ€™t just learn about environmental stewardshipโ€”they practiced it. ๐ŸŒฑ๐Ÿค

At BLS, Outdoor Education gives students opportunities to explore, observe, take action, and connect classroom learning to the world around them. ๐Ÿ”Ž๐Ÿƒ And with this project, they helped create a living legacy.๐Ÿ’š๐ŸŒณโœจ
