Soumyadipta Acharya, an Assistant Professor of Biomedical Engineering and Graduate Program Director at JHU CBID and his team comprising Sunny Patel Marina Rincon Torroella and CBID students have garnered significant attention with their VectorCAM project work. The innovative app earned a spotlight on Bill Gates' personal blog, "Gates Notes," in honor of World Mosquito Day.

VectorCAM empowers healthcare workers to accurately identify mosquito species with minimal training, freeing up valuable resources and allowing vector control officers to concentrate on high-impact strategies.

Out of 286 proposals submitted by teams across all tracks, the top 8 teams from each track have been selected and will advance to the final round. From October 30th to 31st, CBID student Sainkhuu Enkh-Otgon and CBID Fellow Kim Hwang Yeo had the opportunity to attend the Public Policy Institute hosted by the American Institute for Medical and Biological Engineering (AIMBE) in Washington D.C.

During the event, they explored the intersection of science and public policy with experts from institutions including the National Science Foundation (NSF), Food and Drug Administration (FDA), Center for Medicaid Services (CMS), and more.

On Wednesday, October 25th, our CBID students presented their global projects in their midterm presentations at the Bloomberg School of Public Health. They presented to their TAs, faculty members, clinical mentors, and more. This allowed them to validate their clinical needs, conceptual design, business plan, and projected milestones.
