Did you know ... Dyslexia has nothing to do with intelligence?
It’s Dyslexia Awareness Month! And we want you to know … If you or someone you know is dyslexic, you’re in good company! Some of the brightest people in the world have had to conquer dyslexia. But what if they couldn’t?
Imagine a world without:
• Einstein’s theory of relativity (and his hair!)
• Picasso’s cubist masterpieces
• The iPhone that Steve Jobs put in your hand
• The trailblazing wit and courage of Muhammed Ali
• The endless laughs provided by Henry Winkler and Whoopi
Goldberg. The list goes on…
That’s right … they’re all dyslexic!
You see, dyslexia actually has nothing to do with intelligence. Dyslexic learners simply process information differently, because their brains work differently. So what helps dyslexic learners overcome their challenges?
• They learn differently and need to be taught differently.
• Individualized instruction is essential – dyslexia does not affect
everyone the same way.
• They need multisensory teaching methods to help them
master reading, writing, spelling and math.
• They are often creative, problem solvers, and out of the box
thinkers who need understanding and awareness to thrive.
Just ask some of the brilliant people who’ve conquered dyslexia. Then try to imagine the world without their contributions.
That’s why we at DTP do what we do. Because everyone deserves to learn how to read. And every great mind should get a chance to do great things.

Did You Know …October is Dyslexia Awareness Month!
Why educate ourselves about dyslexia?
• It’s estimated that 20% of the population – or 1 n 5 people –
have a dyslexic learning style. That means there is a good
chance that you – or someone you know – has dyslexia!
• Dyslexia accounts for 80-90% of those who suffer with
learning disabilities – making it the most common learning
issue in classrooms and workplaces.
• Early detection can provide crucial support for struggling
young readers – and ensure a lifetime of hope and possibility
instead of struggle and despair.
• Dyslexic learners can learn to read – they just learn differently,
so they have to be taught differently.
That’s why DTP provides low-income children and adults struggling with dyslexia or language based learning differences with FREE one-on-one tutoring, professional assessments, summer camp experiences, social/emotional wellness programming, and other activities.
Because everything starts with reading.

HUGE shout out to the Ravens for hosting students from Dyslexia Tutoring Program at the Ravens Training Camp in Owings Mills, MD on August 9th, 2023!!! It was an afternoon of football, friends, fans, food and fun. Special thanks to Lamar Jackson, Roquan Smith, and Tyler Linderbaum, who – despite the heat and grueling practice - took the extra time to talk to our students, pose for pictures (LOTS of pictures), and sign autographs. They are phenomenal athletes, outstanding men, and real-life role models. What a way to wrap up the summer for our kids! Thank you again to the Ravens organization for making this possible. GO RAVENS!!!
