Our Chemistry students wrapped up the school year by applying their knowledge of chemistry concepts, material properties, and the scientific method to design and improve a retail product of their choice. Their innovations focused on enhancing effectiveness, increasing cost efficiency, or promoting environmental sustainability, and were showcased through final poster presentations.
From solar-powered phone chargers and biodegradable paint to skin-safe personal care products and more, our young women demonstrated creativity and real-world problem-solving through their innovative projects that were put to the test in front of their peers! βπ©βπ¬

Last week, our young women in AP Government & Politics traveled to Washington, D.C., to conclude their course with an immersive learning experience. Our students had the opportunity to observe the Supreme Court of the United States in action by sitting in on oral arguments. They also toured the U.S. Capitol, where they visited both chambers of Congress. To cap off their trip, they explored the National Archives, where they learned more about our nation's history while seeing the foundational documents that helped shape the United States! ππΊπΈ

Abigail Burthe has been quite busy in her studies since graduating from Catholic High in 2021! Last year, she graduated from the University of Pittsburgh where she earned her Bachelor's of Science in Architecture and a minor in Museum Studies. She has held two internships in recent years, the first at Arlington National Cemetery as an Architectural Conservation Intern where she worked to preserve monuments such as the Tomb of the Unknown Solider and the memorial wall at the grave of RFK Sr. Abigail's second internship was in conservation at Independence Hall in Philadelphia. ο»Ώ

ο»ΏAbigail is now continuing her education in a dual degree MastersProgram at Tulane University in New Orleans, Louisiana! Tulane's School of Architecture and the Built Environment (TuSABE) will allow her to obtain a specialized degree where she will earn a Master of Science in Historic Preservation (MSHP) in addition to a Master of Architecture (M.Arch). With this type of degree, she will gain knowledge in policy, research, documentation, understanding historic trades, and meeting government standards for the treatment of historic sites.
When asked what Abigail aspires to do after completing the dual program, she shares "I can see myself going two different ways. I would love to work as an architect for the National Park Service, overseeing the preservation of historic sites across the country. I can also see myself as a consultant for an architecture firm that specializes in adaptive reuse, keeping the integrity of existing buildings, while also giving them a new life. Only time will tell!" Way to go, Abigail! We know you will do amazing things in your future career!
Catholic High is kicking off the month of June by launching our End of Year Giving Campaign! As we approach the end of our fiscal year on June 30, we invite you to support our St. Clare Fund.
