The Julio Fine Arts Gallery Presents:
“A Piece of Me Died with You”, Solo Exhibition by Devin Allen
Exhibition Dates: February 22,2024-March 27, 2024
We are THRILLED to welcome Baltimore native, and internationally renowned artist and activist Devin Allen to Loyola’s campus! “ A Piece of Me Died with You” is a deeply personal exploration of loss, grief, and coping that also shines a light on the persuasive issue of gun violence in Baltimore, and its effects and aftermaths within the communities that suffer most. Devin Allen, a self taught artist, gained notoriety after his photograph of the Baltimore Uprising was published on the cover of TIME magazine in May 2015. His photograph from a Black Trans Lives Matter Protest once again graced the cover of TIME in June 2020. He is the author of two books, A Beautiful Ghetto(2017), and No Justice, No Peace: From Civil Rights Movement to Black Lives Matter(2022). “A Piece of Me Died with You” will mark the first time that Allen has exhibited painting alongside photography, so don’t miss out on this pivotal moment in this illustrious artist’s career!!!!
(This exhibition and its corresponding programming is co-sponsored by: The Visual & Performing Arts Department, Messina, the LCAS Dean’s Office, the Office of Equity and Inclusion, the Office of Peace & Justice, Education for Life, and the Center for Humanities, Loyola University Maryland. The gallery is supported by a grant from the Maryland State Arts Council).
The gallery is open Mon/Tues/Wed/Fri. 10am-4pm, Thurs. 10am-8pm, and Sat/Sun 12-4pm. To learn more info, visit julioartgallery.com or call 410-617-2799!

Here are some of the reviews and thoughts of some our very own Loyola students feel about the exhibition so far! It’s very important to know how our own community feels about the exhibition and your feedback means so much!!
Just a reminder: strikeWare will be BACK on February 15th at 5 pm in McManus Theater to talk more about the exhibition, their process and to converse with students and researchers about the material! Please join us and afterwards as well for a wonderful closing reception following the panel!
“Unrested” holds a mirror to an unresolved past. The exhibition overlaps material, message, and form to present how social institutions have affected several generations. We encourage the community to join us for this meaningful and thought provoking exhibition:immersing themselves in the extended reality artworks, using devices to augment the material works displayed, or by being a part of the living sculptural installations.
srtrikeWare is a Baltimore based art collective formed to create action oriented experiences. Our recent work aims to uplift and amplify stories critical to our American history, often using new technologies to emphasize the nowness of that history. strikeWare members are Mollie Bendell, Christopher Kojzar and JLS Gangwisch. Together, we work and play with virtual and augmented realities, time based media, customized hardware, digital fabrication, and interactive media.

Hey Julio Gallery Art Fans! Our latest exhibition is just days away!
“Mapping Mnemosyne -Where am (I/WE/YOU)?" highlights a comparative view among 14 local and international artists part of the , who developed artistic concepts in the connection between mapping and memory.
The title of the project, "Mapping Mnemosyne - Where am (I /We/ You)?" hints at intersecting routes of memory:
