To celebrate the last week of school, we want to highlight our 8th graders!

Starting off, for our annual 8th Grade Trip, this group got the chance to spend a week in San Diego! They spent time volunteering at Feed San Diego, visited old town San Diego, went to Balboa Park and the zoo, and got the chance to take a surfing lesson! Each student took away so much from the trip but their favorite thing was getting to spend quality time with their friends before they head off to high school!

Last week, our 4th–8th grade students had an inspiring experience at the Youth Summit, where they attended a Green Career Fair, experienced hands-on science activities and demonstrations, and shopped for ideas for projects they might like to execute in Science, Explorations, and Service Learning next year. We are so proud of the thoughtful questions, care for the natural world, and enthusiasm they brought to the day!

Special thanks to the Maryland Association for Environmental and Outdoor Education for supporting this opportunity through their continued commitment to environmental and outdoor education.

Field Day 2026!

What a perfect day! Fabulous weather, lots of help from parents, students working together, and a victory for our Kindergarteners in the tug-o-war against the 8th graders! We hope everyone gets to rest after this busy day πŸ’š

Yesterday, we hosted our annual move-up day. This is a special moment for students to visit the next grade level and learn more about what to expect next year. Students had the opportunity to spend time in their future classrooms, meet teachers, ask questions about the new class, and hear directly from current students about their experiences, highlights, field trips, projects, and so much more!

This morning, Jonathan Aguilar, PhD, a Senior Staff Scientist at Space Telescope Science Institute, and GMS parent came to talk with 7th graders about his research and career path. He talked about how scientists collaborate and how curiosity and practice are important in learning. He did a few demonstrations about how we know the earth is a sphere, and how we measure distances in space. He explains that it is a really fundamental part of astronomy, and all you need to get started are a few neat tricks with parallel lines and math!

Our third and final theme was today! For our third theme, Taking Action, our students spent time learning about how to take care of our world. We saw books about plants, dioramas about different habitats, videos about our ecosystem by the stream, and so much more. These students have worked so hard this trimester to complete these projects and we were blown away by their work! Thank you to all the families for coming out to celebrate with us.

Last week, our 4th and 5th graders went on their annual trip to our state capital, Annapolis, to learn about Maryland history and government. A highlight of the trip was a narrated tour aboard the Harbor Queen.

Last week, our 6th and 7th graders got the chance to see Holes performed . Both classes read the book so getting to see it come to life on stage was a treat! And even more exciting, the actor playing ZigZag was GreenMount Alum, Hassan (class of 2019) πŸ’š

Our Community Day yesterday was a special treat for our students! The Freedom Walkers, who are on a journey from Sandy Spring, MD to Canada, retracing the Underground Railroad, took time from their Baltimore respite to visit our school. They brought with them an 8 ft. statue of Harriet Tubman that is traveling the 750 miles with them!

Thank you to for taking the time to visit our school!
