Fam, if dairy leaves your stomach in a fight, this one is for you.

Up to 75% of African Americans, 90% of Asian Americans, and 50-80% of Hispanic/Latino Americans are lactose intolerant. Almond, soy, oat, and rice milk can be a more accessible swap, with nutrients like calcium, vitamin D, and B12, minus the saturated fat and cholesterol found in cow’s milk.

There’s the planet piece, too. One study found dairy milk creates nearly 3 times more greenhouse gas emissions and uses 9 times more land than plant-based alternatives. Drop your favorite plant-based milk in the comments.

Chef Crystal Forman of Holistic Wellness and Health will lead a hands on planting workshop for youth at Children’s Veg Fest.

Workshop time is 2 PM.

Children will get the chance to plant their own seeds, take home their potted plants, and learn how they can grow food right at home. This fun and interactive workshop helps youth connect with the earth, understand where food comes from, and feel proud of growing something with their own hands.

Children’s Veg Fest will take place on Saturday, August 29, 2026, from 11 AM to 5 PM at the Weinberg Y in Waverly, 900 E. 33rd Street, Baltimore, MD 21218.
