New Johns Hopkins University research reveals there are actually 28 distinct types of dopamine-releasing neurons in the brain—way more than the handful of types previously known. 🧠✨

The discovery reveals a far more complex dopamine system and could advance research into Parkinson's, addiction, depression, and other brain disorders.

A new Johns Hopkins Medicine study reveals that epigenetic marks can be inherited in ways that break the century-long understanding of the rules of inheritance explored and recorded by Gregor Mendel’s work with pea plants.

🎉 Big congratulations to 12 Hopkins BME undergraduates selected for two of the university’s most prestigious summer research fellowships!

This summer, ten BME students will take part in the Provost Undergraduate Research Award (PURA), pursuing independent research projects ranging from migraine pain treatment and cardiac monitoring to intracranial pressure estimation and live-cell imaging.

In addition, two students were chosen for the Bloomberg Distinguished Professorships (BDP) Summer Program, where they’ll spend ten weeks working closely with Bloomberg Distinguished Professors on research in epigenetics and chromatin biology.

Johns Hopkins MD/PhD student, Akshaya Annapragada, has earned a 2026 Soros Fellowship for her research in the "dark genome." She is one of 30 fellows nationwide recognized for their potential to contribute meaningfully to U.S. society. Congratulations! 👏
