Today, 1st and 2nd graders went to the National Museum of Natural History in Washington DC. I was extremely happy that throughout the museum students were making connections to different parts of our curriculum. TT saw fossils and was telling how fossils were made. This was from unit 3 in Science. ZD found a picture of Martin Luther King Jr with part of his speech. She read it out loud to her mom. We saw the bison exhibit and multiple students were talking about how they helped the prairie. Another student was really into the animal exhibits and was reciting facts about owls and other birds. They saw a model of a tree and were tracing the path of water from the roots to the leaves. They loved the minerals and rock display and talked about where to find them in the mountains. This field trip showed the students not only learned our curriculum but can make connections.
