Yesterday, Interim Dean Dr. Gary Warburton participated in the Universities at Shady Grove Alumni Partnership event alongside fellow UMB deans, discussing innovation in education, the future of UMSOD, and the meaningful impact our students have made in Montgomery County, Baltimore, and beyond.

We were also thrilled to reconnect with alumni and community partners, including the president of the Maryland State Dental Association.

Congratulations to Dr. Ramsay Koury, clinical assistant professor and director of the Division of General Practice, on being named UMB Public Servant of the Year! 🌟

Congratulations to Som Chatterjee, PhD, on receiving a five-year, $3.6 million grant from the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) to advance research on antibiotic resistance in Staphylococcus aureus.

Building on previous discoveries from the Chatterjee lab, this research will further explore how penicillin-binding protein 4 (PBP4) contributes to antibiotic resistance and the bacterium's ability to cause serious infections. The findings could pave the way for new treatment strategies and improve outcomes for patients worldwide.

Earlier this month, Dr. John Caccamese was appointed Interim Chair of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery (OMFS) at UMSOD, the University of Maryland Medical Center, and the R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center.

A member of the UMSOD community since 2004, Dr. Caccamese is an internationally recognized expert in cleft lip and palate care and has served as Professor and Vice Chair of OMFS for the past 14 years.

In his new role, he will oversee departmental and clinical operations, including the expansion of UMSOD's Ambulatory Surgery Center and Emergency Dental Services Clinic.
