2024 was a year of 1st for Bringing The Gap, Inc! After 10 years we did not think 1st were possible. Yet, we had them. In 2024, for the 1st time, we were able to put scholars through driving school and helped them get their driving licenses. We have our 1st set scholars going through job readiness programs and working towards independence. And we went back to New York for the 1st time since Covid. (SN- The Scholars LOVED going back to the Big Apple and are looking forward to next year’s New York trip.) Of course, we still do emergency assistance for families, help the teachers of Baltimore fund their classrooms, and of course our foundation which is give guidance to the Young Kings and Queens of Baltimore (We don’t call in mentoring). Help us expand on our 2024 “1st” and be ready for any “1st” that are needed in 2025.

Our first trip back to NYC, since Covid, was nothing short of amazing! We started with a bike ride around Central Park (of course the group that went off on their own got “lost” 🤦🏾♂️🤣), we over came our fear of heights at SUMMIT One Vanderbilt, DEMOLISHED some good eats at John’s Pizza and took the quintessential walk around Times Square! We are definitely looking forward to getting back to our regular schedule of coming, NYC, every year!
Most importantly, we had talks about life and what the future holds for them.
My heart was full, body EXHAUSTED, and soul truly blessed that I could bless this young people!

A1 Day 1!!! If you know him you call him Pernell. If you KNOW him you call him Purp! Purp was one of the first scholars to join BTG. He gave me the BLUES our 1st year! No, forreal this young man challenged everything I knew about kids. After I reflected I realized I may know kids but I didn’t know Purp. After really getting to know him I realized he is one of the smartest, funniest, sarcastic and caring humans ever. 7 years later we are here. Some things never change though, like I won the last basketball game today 🤣. Serious note, as adults sometimes we write kids off because they are a challenge instead of stepping up the challenge. I am glad I faced the challenge because this young man makes my life and world better!

If you know me you already know my eyes sweat EASY when it comes to the young people of . We are really passionate about creating opportunities and putting the young men and women of BTG and Baltimore, as a whole, in a position to have a successful life. Being blessed with the opportunity to give 2 young people the opportunity to get their pilot license really has my eyes ready to sweat! This opportunity will require WORK on the part of these men!! But they were selected because of their work ethic!! The goal is for them to get the various pilot licenses/certifications that will allow them to become flight instructors and then gain the flight hours need to become commercial pilots, if they choose. The choice is THEIRS, as to what direction they go after they have their licenses/certifications. Their opportunities and career options will be LIMITLESS!! I am/we are excited to watch them on this journey. I will keep giving updates on their progress. They start in-person classes the 10th and they fly every weekend.
SN - getting your pilot license while in high school is a CRAZY flex!!
HUGE HUGE shout to my GREAT friend Shawn and !!

For our 6th and final field trip to Irvine Nature Center, our scholars got the “buzz” about why bees are critical to our daily lives and what we can do to help them and other pollinators thrive. BTG Scholars got an up-close look at how a bee’s anatomy is engineered to help them in their role as pollinators and even got to taste 𝑹𝒆𝒂𝒍 honey! They was shortage of sweetness in their day!
BIG Shout to Mr. Glenn, Mr. Brian and the ENTIRE staff. Also, BIG Shout to all of our donors. These experience trips and everything we do would not be possible with out your generosity! We truly appreciate you.

The scholars and the teachers LOVE our Irvine Nature Center trips. This was trip four of six, for this school year.
The first graders did a hands-on exploration of animal artifacts and up-close meet-and-greets with some of Irvine Natural Center’s favorite animal ambassadors. The students also learned how animals’ adaptations help them survive in their different habitats.
Nature is the world’s best classroom!
BIG SHOUT to Mr. Glenn, Mr. Brian, and the entire staff!!
