Meet the Northern Mockingbird!..
If we were in the 1700’s or 1900’s you might of had this bird as a pet! 🐦 The caged bird trade was likely a reason this birds population became extremely low during that time. Thankfully the caged bird trade stopped and allowed for the recovery of this species...
You can often hear this bird calling through by the day and bight during mating season, especially in southern regions. Don’t get too close to a mocking bird nest...they are twice defenders and will attack humans and cats that get too close!..

Amber McElhinney .m55 spent a summer looking at horse hearts! 🐴 ❤️..
Specifically she studied 3D echocardiography in horses at the University of Edinburgh Royal (Dick) School of Veterinary Studies. She looked at the viability of using three-dimensional echocardiography, or ultrasound of the heart, to characterize disease progression in aortic regurgitation. Aortic regurgitation (AR) can be a normal function of aging or a disease in younger horses. Symptoms range from no outward signs to decreased performance to sudden cardiac arrest...
Her study used 3-D echocardiography, ultrasound of the heart, to look at the equine aortic valve and assess it for AR severity. Three-dimensional echocardiography records a pyramid of tissue rather than a 2-D plane, showing cardiac structures difficult to visualize in standard 2-D methods...
In normal valves, only the edges of the cusps were visible, as the tissue is very thin when images were taken from the right, which is standard positioning for imaging the aortic valve. She observed the cusps of the aortic valve to be thickened in horses with AR, with degree of thickening corresponding to AR severity. Left-sided images were generally worse quality than right-sided, but in some cases there was better visualization of some aspects of the aortic valve in left-sided images. 3-D echocardiography potentially could be used as a standard for diagnosis of AR, specifically by looking at cusp thicknesses, and could more specifically diagnose which part of the valve is affected by disease. @ The University of Edinburgh

Team vole’s goal is to understand what roles smalls mammals play on the arctic tundra and predict how these dynamics might change i the future due to climate change...
