Yesterday, SOMOS was given a chance to speak to VP Harris about how the American Jobs Plan could create greater access to affordable high-speed internet for all Americans.

We proposed this idea of “DigiCorps” be implemented nationwide, a sustainable youth jobs program of digital navigators to connect communities effectively to the internet. As well, we encouraged the VP to extend the Emergency Broadband Benefit (EBB) BEYOND the pandemic.

We also made clear that we cannot solve the digital divide by giving more money to the corporations, like Comcast, that helped create it. That’s why we asked Vice President Harris to fight to keep protections for cities and states to build PUBLIC INTERNET in the American Jobs Plan.
