β€οΈπ€π Happy Juneteenth from Garrett Heights Elementary/Middle School! β€οΈπ€π
Today we celebrate freedom, resilience, and the enduring spirit of those who fought for justice and equality.
Juneteenth marks June 19, 1865, the day when the last enslaved African Americans in Galveston, Texas learned they were freeβmore than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation was signed. It is a day of reflection, education, and celebration of Black history, culture, and achievement.
At GHEMS, we honor the generations who paved the way and reaffirm our commitment to creating a school community where every student feels valued, empowered, and inspired to reach their full potential.
As we celebrate this important day, let us continue learning from the past, uplifting one another in the present, and working together to build a brighter future.
Happy Juneteenth!

πβοΈ Making Memories at Guppy Gulch! βοΈπ
Our GHEMS 8th graders traded the classroom for the water this week as they enjoyed an exciting end-of-year field trip to Guppy Gulch Adventure Park!
Students spent the day challenging themselves on floating obstacle courses, paddleboards, water slides, and swimming activities while enjoying the beautiful weather and spending time with friends. The trip provided a well-deserved opportunity for our soon-to-be graduates to relax, have fun, and celebrate all they have accomplished throughout their middle school journey.
From laughter-filled races across the inflatables to helping one another conquer new challenges, our students demonstrated teamwork, courage, and school spirit throughout the day.
As we prepare to send off the Class of 2026, experiences like these remind us that some of the best lessons happen outside the classroomβbuilding friendships, creating memories, and enjoying new adventures together.
A special thank you to our staff, chaperones, and organizers who helped make this trip safe, successful, and unforgettable.
ππ Congratulations, 8th Graders! Enjoy these final moments together as GHEMS studentsβyou've earned it!
