We are very proud of our instructor Mr. Jack Dou! He will be performing next Sunday, May 1 at the Spire Series Piano Marathon in Baltimore at 3p! First and Franklin Presbyterian Church

Next up on the Piano Marathon program next Sunday beginning at 3:00 PM…featuring works by Haydn and Chopin! Yuezhi Dou

Award-winning Chinese pianist Yuezhi Dou “Jack” has emerged as one of the diverse, sought-after musicians in the United States. Since moving to the United States in 2009, he has performed almost a hundred recitals as a soloist or collaborator. As a soloist, he is the First Prize winner of the 2017 Baltimore Piano International Festival Competition and a 2019 winner of the Piano Texas International Academy & Festival Concerto Competition. Notable appearance includes Mozart Piano Concerto in D minor, K. 466 with Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra under the baton of Emmy-award-winning conductor Miguel Harth-Bedoya. He also performed in the prestigious public masterclasses given by Arie Vardi, Leon Fleisher, Richard Goode, and Dmitri Alexeev.

As a collaborative pianist, Mr. Dou has worked with renowned artists, including Superstar mezzo-soprano Denyce Graves and Grammy-award-winning baritone William Sharp, “Godfather of Euphonium” Brian Bowman, and the former second trombone of Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra Jeremy Wilson. He was invited to collaborate with Matt Taylor and Adam McCord at the 41st Saxophone International Symposium, and with Stephen Feldman and Marissa Corsino at the 2020 College Music Society Regional Conference. He was also featured on WWFM Radio’s “Celebrating Our Musical Future” program. In recognition of his outstanding collaborative capabilities, Mr. Dou was honored with the 2016 “Clara Ascherfield Award” from the Peabody Conservatory.

Mr. Dou has taught for over ten years as a passionate educator, especially devoting himself to nurturing young talents. During 2018-2020, he had served on the faculty of the University of Central Arkansas while he was still in the doctoral program and coached his students for their successes in MTNA competitions. He has been serving as a chief judge of two international piano competitions for all age groups at the American Youth Musician Union and co-founded a team to establish an after-school arts program offering free private piano lessons at Baltimore’s Thomas Johnson Elementary Middle School. Other competition adjudications include the Maryland-based Darwin R. Kirchhof Memorial Competition, the Lea Mirabella Senior Award, and the Gottlieb and Chase Piano Competition, as well as O. Samuel Driggers Piano Festival in Arkansas.

Unlike many Chinese concert pianists trained in the conservatory at an early age, Mr. Dou began his professional training at 19 when he moved to the United States and studied with Dr. Neil Rutman, a pupil of Cecile Genhart. A recipient of full-ride scholarships towards bachelor, master, and doctoral degrees, he is completing his D.M.A. at the Peabody Conservatory, where he studies with the legendary Ms. Ellen Mack.
