hen I tell you that Jill Scott: The Study was so, so good for the soul, the heart, and the mind, I mean that. We laughed, hard! We cried, beautifully! We journeyed back to our girlhood and young womanhood with brilliance ✨and grace 🫶🏽.

The care that these women held for themselves and each other was a sight to behold. The way Jill’s whole catalogue gave us SO MUCH, cannot be understated. It was quite simply, excellent.

To each woman who showed up, I see you… I am am so honored by you… I am so glad you came… May you still be flying high from what we experienced together.

In last week’s class the women were NOT afraid, okay. And we calling back this week. So grateful for this space to study ourselves through the study of Black music. So thankful for Jill’s offerings to us. Class is in session. 📝🎙️💅🏾

The day has arrived! We start our study of Jill Scott today and it’s about to shift the atmosphere as the old saints used to say. The women who said yes to this Jill Study are so ill that I know our lives are about to change. 🙌🏾🫶🏽💅🏾

As if it couldn’t get any better: we’re studying Jill Scott for the next three Saturdays AND she just announced her tour! God you love us! Take this as a sign that your life is real good right now (despite the barrel fire that is America 😒).

We’ve been reading our old journals to see where our head has been, too, Jill. 📝

We know you’ve found brilliance and wisdom in those private words you wrote in those journals. 🫶🏽✨ And that is why we’re inviting you to this sacred space where we’ll learn about the power of our girlhood and our womanhood through the study of music.

🎙️Join us for Jill Scott: The Study
Time: 10am - 12pm EST

Jill. We’ve been dreaming of long walks, talks of Mumia and going to a Roots concert with a boo-thang ever since you hipped us to the game back in 2000. Sis, you’ve made us cry in movies. You’ve had us in a chokehold wondering where you buy your undergarments. And you’ve been instrumental to every new relationship and breakup we’ve had for years. It’s time we study you!

We’ve been talking about studying Jill Scott for like 4 years and the time was never right. Ooh, but here we are now. With her newest album dropping in a couple of weeks, we need to look back at all the musical medicine she’s given us. We gon’ talk about the words and sounds from her first 4 albums 🎼. So save the dates: we’re spending three Saturdays delving into Jilly from Philly’s catalogue as a reminder of who we are and who we’ve been. 🎙️📝🫶🏽✨

::whispers:: One of the sexiest things your grandmother knew how to do was stand 10-to-2. Ask her.

Dreaming about Jodeci (circa 1995) performing at a BGSS event is cooler than a polar bear’s toe nails. 😆

Here at Black Girl Saturday School we study art as a way of studying ourselves. Music is paramount. Monica and Brandy showed up prominently in some of our girlhoods. We thank them for their service to us because they were girls themselves.
