🙏 Prayers for Our Faculty & Staff Today!

Please keep our teachers and staff in your prayers today as they take time to put first things first. They are beginning their day centered in Christ with Holy Mass and Eucharistic Adoration, followed by a spiritual retreat at a nearby park led by Live Vertical. This day of prayer and fellowship offers them a quiet space to recharge, deepen their faith, and align their hearts to serve our students and school community with renewed purpose this coming year. 🕊️

Back to school is right around the corner, and we’re lacing up our sneakers for a very special tradition—the 3rd Annual SFCCA Walkathon on Saturday, October 17th! 🏃‍♀️🏃‍♂️✨

This year’s theme is “From Rome to Assisi.” In honor of the Franciscan Jubilee Year and Pope Saint John Paul II’s deep devotion to our patron, Saint Francis, our families are taking on the challenge to collectively cover 400 miles on Walkathon day! 👟

Along with our Spring Gala, the Walkathon powers vital programs that enrich our students all year long—from cultural and historic field trips to our Spring Fine Arts Extravaganza! 🎶🎨

We are so deeply inspired by this beautiful feature in Diocese of Allentown’s AD-Today highlighting our very own Hanobeck family! 🕊️

Their journey through the 33 Days to Eucharistic Glory consecration is such a powerful testament to how the Holy Eucharist can transform a family's heart, home, and daily life.

We also want to extend a heartfelt thank you to Live Vertical for introducing this transformative 33-day consecration to our Diocese. We are immensely grateful for our continued partnership with Live Vertical in spiritually nourishing our students, families, and faculty.

🇺🇸 AT THE INTERSECTION OF LIBERTY & VIRTUE: MEMORIAL DAY 🇺🇸

Today, the Saint Francis Classical community pauses in solemn remembrance of the men and women who laid down their lives in service to our nation.

In classical education, we believe that forming great citizens begins with gratitude. We teach our scholars that the liberties we enjoy were purchased at a high cost. Throughout this year, we have sought to honor that legacy—from the beautiful patriotic standards performed at our recent Spring Fine Arts Extravaganza to the mission of our Liberty & Learning Gala. These aren't just events; they are how we teach our students that freedom must be balanced by virtue and a deep respect for the Western tradition.

📰 As Dr. Brake shared in our recent newsletter:

“In honor of our fallen heroes who we remember this weekend, who paid that last full measure of devotion for the sake of our common liberties, I wish you all a most solemn and special Memorial Day. You may wish to pray the 'Prayer for the Fallen' at the end of today’s newsletter to help recall the true meaning of this particular holiday, for it is purchased at a very high cost. Have a blessed Memorial Day.”

“Gracious God, on this Memorial Day, we pray for those who courageously laid down their lives for the cause of freedom. May the examples of their sacrifice inspire in us the selfless love of Your Son, our Lord Jesus Christ. Bless the families of our fallen troops, and fill their homes and their lives with Your strength and peace.

In union with people of goodwill of every nation, embolden us to answer the call to work for peace and justice, and thus, seek an end to violence and conflict around the globe. We ask this through your name. Amen.”

📚 MEASURING WHAT MATTERS: THE CLASSICAL LEARNING TEST (CLT) 🏛️

As our spring calendar rolls forward, our scholars in Grades Three and up will be participating in something new this week: the Classic Learning Test (CLT) assessments!

For families who might be new to classical education or haven't encountered the CLT before, you might be wondering: How is this different from standard state testing?

The answer is: It’s completely different! 🌟

Unlike mainstream standardized tests that change based on shifting educational trends, the CLT was built specifically to evaluate foundational skills through the lens of the Western tradition.

Here is why we are looking forward to it, as shared by Dr. Brake in our recent newsletter:

"The CLT is a terrific diagnostic tool for classical educators to help us assess where our students are in terms of their mathematical reasoning, reading comprehension, and overall analytical abilities. It is as much of an evaluation of how we as a faculty are doing as well, and since it is purely diagnostic in nature, there is nothing to prepare for other than for our students to do their best (and get plenty of rest the night before)... I am looking forward to being able to evaluate our curriculum and pedagogy in light of the results, and have some granular results for each child that will help our teachers tailor instruction to meet the academic needs of each specific student."

✨ WHY WE LOVE THE CLT AT SFCCA:

• Beautiful Content: Instead of dry, uninspiring reading passages, the CLT utilizes excerpts from classic children’s literature, poetry, historical non-fiction, and timeless fables. The material itself reflects the Good, the True, and the Beautiful!

• No "Teaching to the Test": The best preparation for a CLT exam isn't tedious test-prep booklets—it’s the exact education our scholars receive every single day in our classrooms through rich discussions, deep reading, and thoughtful problem-solving.

• Tailored Growth: The data gives our faculty invaluable, granular insights into our students' strengths so we can customize our instruction to support each individual child.
