Today is International Bereaved Mother's Day. This day was started by Carly Marie Dudly in Australia and has been embraced by people around the world. It is a day for any parent who has lost a child, and, in particular, it honors mothers who have experienced miscarriage, stillbirth, SIDS, or any type of pregnancy and infant loss. In the US, this day occurs on the Sunday before Mother's Day, where we recognize those who have experienced the death of one or more children, have struggled to conceive a child, or are unable to become pregnant at all.

What are some ways to observe International Bereaved Mother's Day? Perhaps you can send a card or share words of encouragement. You could take an action to memorialize that person or family, such as: plant a tree, gift a piece of memorial jewelry, make a donation, or attend a remembrance event. If you have suffered the loss of a child, our hope is that you will be able to spend the day remembering your child(ren), participating in self-care, and being surrounded by those who you love.
